Civilians of /k/, what do you do for a living? I'm 21 and haven't quite figured out how to get a job that will support a wife, a boy+girl, and a dog, and pay off a house with a white fence. My family members either have a military background or are old enough to have walked to the nearest Ford factory and gotten a job paying $20 an hour, worked there for 40ish years and retired.

I lack direction and could use some helpful advice, thanks guys

    Anywhere near Leavenworth?

OP, I'm back in school pursuing a forestry degree so I can work innawoods here in Wisconsin. If you like working outside but don't want to be a peon there are ways of doing it. Just make sure that before you sign your name on the dotted line for student loans that your chances of finding employment after graduation are really good. As an entry level forester I can expect between $38,000 - $45,000 at the high end. Perfectly fine for me as I have no dependents. Before this I was a bartender for years. Cool job, shit hours, decent money, interesting coworkers, but unfulfilling above all.

It depends on the company you work for...private or city. Usually if its a MALS rig (a basic with an intermediate or a basic with a paramedic)...the basic drives all the time.

If its a two emt-b rig...usually you dont have to drive if you dont want to. Driver has to do less work though usually... so that can be nice. Paperwork gets to be tedious after the 20th call in a row :(

Foresters can do all kinds of shit. Most of the private sector shit involves tree care and supporting the timber industry through planting trees, surveying/marking forests for cutting, and using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) programs to plot forests and estimate the timber haul you can get out of it. In the public sector, you can do many of the same things, but you can also care for state/national forests and such, which is what I hope to do.

Not really that thrilling. For this year (just started at the current gig a few weeks back) I have to shovel the tar sand into the molds from 6A-3P. But before that I used to work with a lathe, plasma cutter, and mill. On the upside, at the new job I've already seen two pretty horrific injuries. One guy lost 2 fingers on a lathe and the other broke his arm in half (he was able to touch the inside of his elbow joint) in a ram press for sheet metal.

From what I understand he tried to clear away tailings while the lathe was spinning down, he got the cuff of his jumpsuit caught, and then his hand was brought around the bit a few times. Apparently the lathe in our shop has enough force while turning off to detach fingers. I'd say he was about 90-110 in the IQ department, but it was nice to get the rest of the day off on account of his sheeting the oil pan and lathe down with blood.

Big checks is all about yo hustlin homie!

Go be a fire fighter in some tiny town.

    Or work for FEMA.

Or you can join the mass majority of /k/ and go be a shit shift mall cop.

Try to work your way into a place where you make more than $500 a week. In most places if two people can do that, comfortable living is doable. Just don't spend more than you make. And find some silly way to make a couple of extra bucks here and there.

Alot of us have guns as a hobby, and we'll buy parts when they are on sale and wait a while and re-sell them on ebay or whatever, or we'll build a decent lower mid-tier ar15 when parts are on sale over the year and sell it for a little more than we paid for it around tax return time when people are more likely to buy.

Reloaderfags will make a decent amount off of 45acp and .223

“We do not know the causes [of any mental illness]. We don’t have the methods of ‘curing’ these illnesses yet.” —Dr. Rex Cowdry, psychiatrist and director of National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), 1995

“The time when psychiatrists considered that they could cure the mentally ill is gone. In the future the mentally ill have to learn to live with their illness.” —Norman Satorius, president of the World Psychiatric Association in 1994

“What’s a cure?…it’s just that it’s a term that we don’t use in the medical [psychiatric] profession.” —Dr. Joseph Johnson, California psychiatrist during court deposition, 2003

Psychiatrists were surveyed about their “fantasies” about their practice. Their Number 1 fantasy was: 1: “…I will be able to ‘cure’ the patient.” The Number 2 fantasy was: “The patient wants to know what his or her problem is.” —Dr. Sander Berger, associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Michigan State University, Psychiatric Times, 1998

Any sort of healthcare job is going to make decent money. X-ray tech here, started at $25/hour, make over $31 right now, plus call (call is nice...it's $8 an hour just for sitting around being available, and then time and a half, minimum of 2 hours guarenteed, if you get called in). My health insurance is just about top notch, and I get 6 weeks of paid vacation a year. Not rich by any means, but I'm not hurting. I make more than a couple of friends who are school teachers with masters degrees...and the rad tech certification is like an RN (associate's degree). If I learn a more advanced modality, like ultrasound, MRI, or nuclear medicine, I'll make more. If I go back to school for a couple of years and become a physician's assistant or a radiologist's assistant (basically a PA that does fluoro procedures so the radiologists can sit back and read films all day), it's like $100k+. I'm not sure I want to deal with that, though...I'm happy at what I do now.

And if you can't find yourself a gorgeous girl with a good job working in a hospital, you are one ugly, sad, beta-ass motherfucker.

that place is just a watchdog group that observes for abuses in the system. In case you haven't noticed most doctors are in it for the money.

You want to try a neat experiment? Go to a bunch of dentist for a "check-up" and look at the differences in how many caries each one reports and on what teeth. It's the only reason why I go to a dentist who is a friend of the family, but lived about 500 miles away from me. Yeah it's a long trip, but at least I don't get some asshole trying to drill my teeth so he can make a buck.

It doesn't pay brilliantly but I still earn way above my actual needs so have a lot of disposable income. I got real lucky with this job and my circumstances are such that I have plenty of money to spend on luxuries. I don't mean to brag because I got this job out of pure dumb luck.

I never went into higher education, the lifestyle wasn't for me and I don't think I could have afforded the cost or dealt with the debt that followed after. I went to college and studied design engineering for a few years and that's where my real passion is. One day I'll leave this job and go into design. Ideally going into a gunsmiths.

i'm don't want to be hostile i just need to impress upon you "youngers" that the only answers to your life aren't army or a job. in fact those are the easy answers. don't run from the hard stuff like leaning on yourself to stand tall and learn without a coach over your shoulder

If you want to work with computers you will be in one of the most competitive fields, you should work on a degree and think about moving somewhere like the SF Bay or Portland. There are plenty of things you can do from home without a degree though that aren't as lucrative but better than nothing. Start a gun blog, you can post the same shit you do on /k/ but get a few extra bucks from it, you can get a small amount from advertisers, and a fair bit from merchandise if it sees some success.

The important part is to be moving forward, posting on 4chan is definitely not going to do that. Think "what can I be doing to make money right now." Doesn't really matter if it's 10 cents an hour, the important part is to get started. You can always pursue other things while doing a job that is beneath you if you must. I feel a lot of ̶a̶s̶p̶i̶e̶s̶ 4 chan posters think they are too good or too smart for the jobs they can get, and somehow decide doing nothing is better, don't fall into that.

I can appreciate what you're saying about starting a business, but I don't have the capital to get one going. I have a small debt from student loans and my possessions don't add up to much.

I have a registered LLC and a few other misc assets but I need to get on my feet first.

Thanks for the tips. I've owned websites in the past but I'm currently banned from Adsense, so making them profitable is a bigger task than it was in the past.

You're right about concluding that "nothing is better"

I'm a part time stripper and bar tender. Have a bachelor's in criminal justice. Any job I get with my degree will sadly pay less. I'd have actually made more using my training to work on cars, which cost me about the same as 1 year of college.

    Agree.

I was doing about 200$ a month (eurofag here) as a part manager/part it support/part sales for an activity i love. Quit it and after a month of hurting got into my current job.

Forex salesman/broker.. Although i get about 400$ a month fixed, i can rack up to about 10k a month in commissions. 9 hours a day, weekends always free.

    Nothing to brag about...

I'm 35 and in the Air Guard.

If you have no job prospects, part time in the guard isn't bad. You only put in a weekend a month and you get something to put on your resume. And in most states, you get 100% tuition assistance up to a point... in my current state, it's $4,500.
