The future of warfare, what is it?

My view, short term something like the pic. Relitive peace between the superpowers with most warfare being insurgencies.
Longer, population pressure causes a terrible WWIII, limited nuclear exchange.
Space war: it will be like extremely dangerous submarine warfare. I also see independant colonies on the moon & mars.

War will always be a part of man. Evolution has taught us that any civilization that stops fighting commits suicide and is engulfed by other cultures

Anyway, post any changes you see happening with anything from UBERLAZORZ to small arms.

    Also future combat art

Um how about the only time nuclear bombs have been used in war ever? If a nuke went off in a nation at wars capitol without warning, no ICBM shit, surrender would most likely happen. Stop being stupid.

    > nuclear EXCHANGE
See that word? it's implying the other side had nukes too. 194x japan had no nukes, therefore there was no "exchange" of nukes between contries. one country had them, used them, and the other one took it.

put some fucking effort into your trolls please

Could it be limited if the two nations had >10 nukes?
    >> Anonymous 08/30/10(Mon)17:44 No.7137588
    >>7137535
Consider all the casualties each nuke causes when it hits the target. Even if only 20 nukes were used by each side that hit the 20 most populated cities the other side had, the death toll could be considered as genocide.
Even if it's less then 10 nukes, and all the nukes both sides have end up getting used, is that really "limited" any more? No, because they've used their entire fucking arsenal.

Limited is a fucking troll word when you're refering to nukes, and you're as much a fucking idiot for using it as the OP is.

i don't see any reason for human shaped "mecha" assuming they're big enough that the pilot has a cockpit and isn't just encased in a suit. were i designing one, it would be a spidery thing, with "reversible" legs and weaponry on the "thighs". more area for guns and shit and it isn't designed for a defined "up/down" which doesn't really exist in space

weapons progress has slowed in the last 30 years because we're getting to the point where it's becoming incredibly difficult to refine the basic chemical-fired projectile. Armor research and development has speeded up greatly (since with the advent of synthetic materials, we don't need to find the shit anywhere!), and we're approaching a paradigm shift, it seems (weapon tech is pretty much peaked right now).
In 2100 if even fairly conservative AI developments are assumed to have taken place, the standard 'infantryman' here will probably be a nonsentient idiot-savant combat drone, wired up to a human squad leader who will almost definitely be either a cyborg wired into a combat dedicated body, or remote controlling it from the other side of the globe. The squads will have a variety of brilliant munitions, support options, recon options, and other stealthy systems.
Optical stealth and radar stealthing are probably going to be given to all combat units, along with optical (metamaterials) and radar cloaking.
Oh, and firepower. Coilguns have no muzzle velocity limits and can in theory be dial-a-yield. And AT missiles will have to evolve to attack a target through active defenses, stealth, and heavy EW systems.

"War, war never changes. . Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything, from God to justice to simple, psychotic rage.

In the year 2077, after millennia of armed conflict, the destructive nature of man could sustain itself no longer. The world was plunged into an abyss of nuclear fire and radiation. But it was not, as some had predicted, the end of the world. Instead, the apocalypse was simply the prologue to another bloody chapter of human history. For man had succeeded in destroying the world - but war, war never changes.

In the early days, thousands were spared the horrors of the holocaust by taking refuge in enormous underground shelters, known as vaults. But when they emerged, they had only the hell of the wastes to greet them - all except those in Vault 101. For on the fateful day, when fire rained from the sky, the giant steel door of Vault 101 slid closed... and never reopened. It was here you were born. It is here you will die. Because, in Vault 101: no one ever enters and no one ever leaves."

The point about armor becoming better is true to an extent, since it's very easy to scale up guns to penetrate armor. Also, the availability of body armor relative to the availability of guns is in extreme disproportion.

No one else is even close. 1 manned SU-31 = 6 predator in terms of cost. prob more like 4 unmanned fighters to every manned fighter in a foreign air force in the future.
