Official 4chan Chrome Extension updated (again to v2.0.1—fixes many bugs) for new HTML! Comes with a bunch of new features including post filtering and text buttons. More features to be rolled out later this week. The new extension runs orders of a magnitude faster on large threads.
Download it here!

After nearly a decade, we've rewritten our HTML/CSS from scratch and are now running on that new code. 4chan now validates HTML5/CSS3, and with a few other tweaks we've made, pages should be loading faster than ever. The design should be 100% the same too—if you notice any wonkiness, please make sure you're using a modern browser (something from the past year). Also, try clearing your cache.

Along with the new HTML comes two new big features: a mobile-optimized layout for phones so you can browse 4chan on the go, and inline extension features.

We've built what we think are the most popular extension additions directly into the site. To toggle them on and off, click "[Settings]" in the upper-right or bottom-right of the page. These features are: Quick reply, inline image expansion, post previews (for current thread only, we will make it global soon), backlinking (see who replied to a post), and enable a new drop-down style navigation. If you'd like the other features that the Chrome extension offers, grab it here.

Please report bugs to newhtml@4chan.org. Note if you are using an old browser, that is probably why you're experiencing bugs. Please include your OS and browser + version when reporting a bug.

No it wouldn't. They existed in the days of cheap imports before. The only ones that would go out of business would be the ones that suck. The only one that is dangerous to them is Norinco and other Chinese manufacturers anyway.

Currently the market inflates prices artificially.

I don't really care about new Chinese stuff. I want all of the older guns that are being prevented from import like SVD's, ACTUAL complete foriegn made AK's, shotguns with more than 5 round mags, etc.

>>
>>11653851
No, it would not. And if it did, that's what they get for being too shitty to compete. This protectionist bullshit isn't helping anybody. The stagnation is fucking sickening.

>>11653895
>The only ones that would go out of business would be the ones that suck.

Exactly. Norinco alone would put Springfield Armory out of business, they make M14s and 1911s of the same (arguably) quality for 1/4 the price.

>I want all of the older guns that are being prevented from import like SVD's, ACTUAL complete foriegn made AK's, shotguns with more than 5 round mags, etc.

I'd like real SIG rifles, PPKs, CZ rifles, etc... Lifting the retarded ban would probably also get HK to start making proper civilian versions of their weapons again.

I didn't really think that surplus firearms from a war that happened 50+ years ago were created by means of slave labor in all but a few cases. Even now, the Us can't stand to have their own property imported in fear of prices dropping to the point where no profit can be had for the greedy.

Be honest; what would you rather have? A world where your country's economy can compete with foreign influence all while keeping afloat with a low cost of living, or a world where your economy must have a monopoly on all of the goods that it needs while contributing to a high cost of living?

With the first option comes $300 M1 Garands, with the second option comes $700 M1 Garands.

Yes, really. Minimum wage laws, high taxes on corporations, ridiculous regulations about pointless shit, etc. in the US are what I'm talking about.

Actually, the gun industry should be sheltered from the effects of cheap overseas labor more so than other industries due to the high amount of skilled labor building quality firearms requires. Overseas labor for a lot of the manufacturing process would be cheaper to outsource, but most of the engineering and skilled labor required would have to come from 1st world countries.

The import bans and NFA are only hurting people. I couldn't give 2 shits if Bluecollar McFudd had a job vs. some poor moron in Eastern Europe. If the US manufacturers can't compete, then they deserve to fail. I know many of them can though. US gun industry STRONG.

If the import bans and the NFA were lifted, the advances in the firearm industry worldwide would be amazing.

Ruger would still be making rifles. Their guns are already cheap as fuck and of respectable quality. Fucking EVERYONE has a US made 10/22.

The other companies you just list already basically are just importers. So yeah...

You also have to realize that the overall availability and variety of firearms would be greater without those import bans. Just because cheap firearms would be imported does not mean that US innovation and manufacturing will cease and we will no longer have the guns that are available now. there will be the same one and more, and the cost of them will be lower.

tl;dr: I'll take my $300 Garands.

Except it won't because the economy will stabilize and those people (well, and approx. equal number of people anyway) would be doing a job that is more efficient to be done here instead, and thus the overall economy will be better off.

The only thing that would cause what you say to happen is Government handouts preventing people from wanting to work, which is already happening at an increasing rate, FML.

Import bans actually contribute to a poorer economy because what work is being done is less efficient generally.

>cheap shit over good stuff everyday

better for the money, so it IS more good

>Remington, Springfield, and Winchester

A HUGE portion of Remington's product line are imports from random sources.

A majority of Springfield's product line are imports. The XD is made in Crotia and their 1911's are made in Brazil for example.

Winchester firearms are essentially ALL made overseas (primarily Japan), except for the Model 70 which is being made in SC (one of the few competitive states for manufacturing due to non-retarded laws)

Your favorite 'all American' gun companies are no more and have been that way for many years. Manufacturing is outsourced by them to Japan, South America, and Eastern Europe. (notice that these are not shit tier countries in terms of labor, their laws are just less stupid about labor than ours)

There will be industry job still, just less of them. People said the same thing about farming during the industrial revolution. you may think that those people were retarded, but they were saying basically the same thing as you.

Technology will allow each person to produce more, division of labor will increase, and the standard of living will go up too. There will always be demand for labor in one way or another. Telling people to do is a job and those typically are the ones that pay the best.

Assuming NO US manufacturing (which is completely laughable), the US economy would be filled with people who would control the manufacturing being done elsewhere and the service industries to support those people. This is actually what our economy looks like right now to a large degree.

Unfortunately, those manufacturing job CAN be done just as well or better in the US, but our laws in regards to labor (including social programs) make it cost too high. THIS is what is killing us. Ironically, the import bans and tariffs are contributing to the degradation of our economy as well because they cause the cost of things to be higher for the consumers while in the LONG TERM not ensuring that US manufacturing is protected because the law regarding labor already ensure its eventual failure.

tl;dr: the US economy is fucked and import bans are making it worse

It's very ironic.

They want less regulation while wanting more regulations on imports.

most republicans have no fucking clue why they support the things they do. A lot of them would be hard core commie-esque democrats if it wasn't for how they are told to interpret the bible. Sad but true.

VERY few people actually have logically consistent political philosophies. Political parties are even worse. When you see the amount 'bi-partisan' legislation that is completely retarded, you will loose all faith probably.

OP, nice pic thread.

Canadian Ross rifle from pre-early WW1.

Straight pull, .303, accurate, but not so good with mud, which is why the Canuks dropped it for their standard IN rifle during WW1

Why are US manufactures so afraid of competition? And what would happen to Cerberus? And why does it cost more to turn parts on CNC lathe in Amurikuh than it does in China? The machine does all the work, not the dude pressing the green button.

A lot of it has to do with taxes and random regulations. Note the countries that gun manufacturing is outsourced to, they are not 3rd world shit holes. Japan, Eastern Europe, South America, and, to some extent, the South Eastern US are the primary places it seems to be moving to.

Ohhh boy, do you think about this shit before you post it? The answer to that is your side of the argument. The cost of the skill workman that does the upkeep on them. Which is your argument for the jobs that will replace the manufactory jobs that go over seas

>Winchester

Winchester is Belgian-owned (FN) and most of their firearms are Belgian or Japanese.

>Remington

Remington, and Cerberus in general, deserves to go under for all the shit they pull. They're the biggest example of how protectionism is hurting the American gun industry.

>Springfield

Springfield is equally shitty. They're dishonest price-gouging fucks who pretend to be American while half their guns are Croatian or Brazilian. The only American gun they make is the M1A, which is price gouged like fuck because there's nobody else making them (except a couple high-end custom makers).

>Ruger

Ruger would keep on truckin' just fine. They make quality products at a good price. I doubt anyone at Ruger gives a single fuck if the import ban is lifted.

>Also all you slave shit bros that think the market will be flooded with top quality $200 AKs are crazy. You'd be getting shitty $500 monkey welded shit.

Of course there will be a lot more shitty AKs. There will also be awesome ones. Loosening the import laws won't bring in 100% shit, that's retarded.

>But thats wrong, did you just make that up?
Not him, but Winchester and Springfield ARE mainly importers. Winchester is mainly Belgian and Japanese firearms with one or two rifles being made in the US, and Springfield mainly sells 1911s (Brazilian) and XDs (Croatian), making only the M1A here.

Springfield is a good example of a shit-tier American company who can't keep up. When the HS2000 came here it was $250 new. Springfield bought the American distribution rights, doubled the price, and sold it as their own. They're already benefiting from cheap foreign firearm prices, we can't the average American?
