  • Attention extension/user script/archive developers: 4chan's new HTML will be going live tomorrow, Sunday the 13th, at approximately 12:00PM ET. Please have your new versions ready to roll by then.

Attention everyone else: GET READY FOR EXCITEMENT!! On Sunday we'll be rolling out our new imageboard HTML/CSS. Everything has been rewritten from the ground up and replaces code that is nearly a decade old. The designs will be 100% the same, but this should allow us and other developers to more easily modify and create add-ons for 4chan. Large threads should also render more quickly, and we also have a new mobile view for those on mobile phones. And a few other goodies.

We expect the migration to be pretty painless, but expect some wonkiness tomorrow afternoon. The Official 4chan Chrome Extension will be updated immediately, and has a bunch of new features and runs 3x faster than the old one, so be sure to grab that in advance.

Jesus Christ /k/. I just finished watching The Hurt Locker for the first time. This shit won 6 Academy Awards?

I know shit about EOD so I was willing to suspend disbelief right up until they got to the snipe-off...

What the christ was that shit? Blood on the mag made the .50 fail to feed? 800m AK sniping? Hitting a running dude at that range? I could go on and on because the movie only went downhill from there.

    Shit war movies general?
    >> Anonymous 05/13/12(Sun)06:36 No.11640393
It won 6 academy awards because the critics aren't /k/ommando's. Some would argue that's a good thing

Fair point.. but you'd think that they would have at least asked a few people how some of this shit works.
    >> Anonymous 05/13/12(Sun)06:41 No.11640411
The sniping part was a little unbelievable but I liked it. It was a good movie.

Maybe it got 6 awards because it WAS a good movie? Maybe the little gun facts that nobody gave a fuck about didn't really factor in it being a good movie or not? Y'know, those things like plot and acting being more important

I noticed every single problem you mentioned while watching that movie. I just don't analyse it and let it annoy me. End of the day, it was some pretty good acting and not a shit movie.
The only movie i can say was perfect from beginning to end is "The way of the Gun" and i saw that 11 years ago. It's good to have a passion, after all, that's why we all congregate here. Just don't turn your passion into a source of frustration when you watch movies full of flaws like this one.

in its defense, its dragunov sniping not AK, and for blood on the mag, if it was enough it would dry in afghan heat before it would run away as it would in a cooler climate, also they cut some of that scene out and it looked a bit botched... then the last bit about the explosion at the tanker yard and the chase is all bullshit

It wasn't a Dragunov believe it or not, it was a PSL-54C which makes the scene even more laughable now that you know that. Not a Romak III, FPK, SSG-97, and surely not a SVD or NDM-86 variant.

You, sir, are the retard. There are NUMEROUS reasons why the hurt locker is unrealistic. Blood on the mag, especially when dried, WOULD create a fail to feed. Also, hitting a target at 800m with a Barrett is far from impossible, especially with a decent optic and a good spotter
(the AK part was BS, though).

    >Maybe it got 6 awards because it WAS a good movie?

    But it wasn't.

The acting was average. That drunken scene was embarrassing to watch.

The story was hollywood bullshit, nothing new.

The lack of accuracy in just about every aspect was appalling. From the wrong camo to the sneaking out and back into the base to the 3 man EOD team just rolling around the country doing whatever the fuck they want.

Fucking bullshit that won awards for a few bits of artistic cinematography (wooowwww it's in slow mo) and a gritty "realistic" men-are-so-into-war message.

    So deep.

Every time I watch the hurt locker, I can't finish it. Not because it's a bad film, or I hate the characters or it's boring or anything. There's just something about it that stops me from finishing it every time. I always get to the 30 minute mark before shutting it off.

This is a movie where you can see soldiers playing video games that hadn't been made on consoles that weren't out yet and visiting youtube in a movie set pre-youtube. Clearly James Cameron didn't teach Bigelow anything about OCD attention to detail.

It was a good movie. Of course they did a bit more than a normal EOD squad would, it needs to be action packed.

The snipe off was pretty realistic. If it had been a sniper instead of EOD it would have been believable.
