that handle is used to carry the weapon and remove barrels. if you press a button on the side of the MG and rotate that handle up, the barrel then can slide forward for changing. otherwise, you pull the trigger on the handle which allows it to rotate up for easier carrying. the horizontally mounted grip is for dismounted operations and firing. the 240 is an awkward weapon to fire standing or kneeling. There is no real way to fire it at the shoulder, so under arm firing is really the only utile way to use it. because of the bottom ejecting mechanism, you cant place your hand where it naturally wants to go so you can either grab the bi pod or mount that grip there which is a bit better.

It's semi-randomly chosen, and generally the newest/lowest ranking soldier gets the biggest/heaviest weapons. Also, if the squad leader feels like one of the guys needs to bulk up, he will assign him a 240B for rifle PT and marches.

I don't think anyone mentioned this, but the handle is also for barrel changes; you can't touch the actual barrel (because herr derr it's hot as FUCK) but you still need some way to manipulate it. There is a little button/lever thing that you pull when you rotate the handle and it disengages the barrel from the receiver.

Lastly, when you reattach the barrel using the handle, it makes a clicking noise as it ratchets in. The number of clicks is a reflection of how well the barrel is headspacing if you don't hear enough of them, that barrel needs to go back to the armorer.

SAW is more of a role rather than a weapon classification. The M249 is both an LMG and a SAW. Also, an LMG is an intermediate caliber as in 5.56 A MMH or more commonly called a GPMG is a full caliber machine gun, it doesn't matter if it's mounted or not.

Carrying it like a suitcase is actually the fastest way to move with it sometimes. If you've got to pick it up and move quickly it works like a charm. It's also a lot sturdier than you're making it out to be. Every part of the M240B is pretty beefy. . . only part I've ever had break was the buttstock.

Most comfortable way to move around with it is over-the-shoulder but I've gotten bitched out 100% of the times I've tried that outside of mountain warfare school.

    >Giving Afghani-kids anything
    >youjustwentfullretard.jpg

Jokes aside, while I sometimes felt like it might be nice to give kids small stuff, we learned pretty early on that if you give a kid something once, every kid with 500 m is going to sense this, and come running to get a piece of the action, and you´ll soon find yourself surrounded and outnumbered by nosy kids all begging for anything, everytime you visit that spot.
When we did hand out clothes or other things, sent by family back home, by soldiers in camp or gifts from CIMIC, we´d usually hand them in crates to the local village/area elders, and then accompany them/him when they hand them out to the locals.
    Shoes were particularly popular

Not mad, just astonished a CoD kid doesn't know the difference between a 60 and a 240. They don't look similar in any way. Then there's the whole failure to reading comprehension, being corrected, and then insisting on still being right despite everything to the contrary.

Anyway, back to discussing the topic of this thread with people who have real world experience with the weapons mentioned.
