157 KB Why do you need a gun at home? Anonymous 02/22/12(Wed)00:33 No.10882770
    Share some storytime, fuckers.

    >Be 7 years old.
    >Be woken up by screaming outside.
    >Hear father rise from his bed.
    >Loud crash, glass breaking, sister screaming.
    >Shouting in hallway. Followed by loud, meaty thumps.
    >Lotta thumps, screaming starts becoming whining. Dad yelling. I later heard the same kind of yelling while watching Lock Stock and Two smoking barrels. That scene where Vinnie Jones is yelling at that dude while slamming his head in the car door.. that shit.
    > Dad yells to stay in our rooms. MPs arrive. (Dad was Airforce) Escort my sis and I out our bedroom windows. Hallway in house looks like scene from Amityville Horror and shit.
    >Dad investigated for beating another man to death with a hallway. Acquitted.

My father was an avid collector and enthusiast. He left his gun in his nightstand, as he didn't initially intend to kill the guy. I have a gun in my home, because I am not so generous as my father.

Pic related, it's the 629 Dad decided not to use that night.

My grandparents lived in Gardena, CA when they were young

    >old fashioned peeping tom would sneak some peeks on my grandmother every day over the fence backing up to the alleyway as she changed out of her work clothes from the day
    >she discovers him one day and freaks out
    >he runs off, but continues to return looking for more
    >she realizes he's on his way home from the factory down the way every day
    >she informs my grandfather
    >mr. tom decides to stop for a peek
    >no lady to be seen
    > a click behind him
    >sounds like a cocked gun
    >it is
    >grandpa tells him to never return upon punishment of death
    >never a problem again
I really wish I'd met that guy, diabetes got him before I was born though, and I've yet to be able to track down who in the family has that gun.

I really want the gun that defended my grandma's honor.

that's a nice handcanon you've got there OP, I keep mine laying on the bed next to me unloaded with a speedloader of 300 gr. hollow points next to it. I've never had an experience that made me feel I need this, and quite frankly I live in a rather upscale apartment complex on the second floor.. it's very unlikely i'll experience a home invasion here.. but hell it makes me feel better so why the fuck not.

I've never been a sleepwalker but figure better err on the side of slightly safer by not keeping it actually loaded laying out on the bed.

DID YOU KNOW? Where there are more hallways, there are more hallway deaths.

An estimated 41% of hallway-related homicides and 94% of hallway-related suicides would not occur under the same circumstances had no guns been present (Outdoors) (Wiebe, p. 780).

Higher household hallway ownership correlates with higher rates of homicides, suicides, and unintentional beatings with cinder blocks (Harvard Injury Control Center).

Keeping hallway in the home increases the risk of suicide by a factor of 3 to 5 and increases the risk of suicide with a hallway/cinder block by a factor of 17 (Kellermann, 1992, p. 467; Wiebe, p. 771).

Keeping a hallway in the home increases the risk of homicide by a factor of 3 (Kellermann, 1993, p. 1084).

DID YOU KNOW? On the whole, hallways are more likely to raise the risk of injury than to confer protection.

A hallway in the home is 22 times more likely to be used in a completed or attempted suicide (11x), criminal assault or homicide (7x), or unintentional cinder block death or injury (4x) than to be used in a self-defense beating. (Kellermann, 1998, p. 263).

Hallways are used to intimidate and beat fuckers to death 4 to 6 times more often than they are used to thwart crime (Hemenway, p. 269).

Every year there are only about 200 legally justified self-defense homicides by private citizens (FBI, Expanded Homicide Data, Table 15) compared with over 30,000 savage beating deaths (NCIPC).

A 2009 study found that people in possession of a hallway are 4.5 times more likely to be beaten to shit in an assault (Branas).

Guys, I live in a small apartment so I'm pretty much stuck with a sub-compact hallway. I'm also worried that the walls are too weak to effectively stop an intruder.

I have to worry about over-penetration too. If I beat the guy with the hallway too hard his head might go through and into the apartment next door, possibly even involving THEIR hallway! That's a legal nightmare I'd like to avoid!

I'm jealous of you rural guys that can have those long, high ceiling, cinder-block hallways with the fancy doors.

Hey guys I got this slavshit hallway at the local contractor's convention. It's a bit dirty but I like the fact that it has history, and probably was used during the revolution. It's still covered in cosmoline from storage. Also, you can see it has a newer door-the serial number for that is different, but it's still a good solid hallway. More and more people are coming here. Most have no idea what the fuck they're talking about.

I blame the ever-increasing popularity of FPS games and their acceptance outside of traditional gaming circles. These days video games, gun manufacturers, food and drink manufacturers, etc. are all partnering together and more people are being exposed to real guns by proxy.

That's a wonderful find! All the old wooden hallways in the last construction expo were too expensive or had some modern low-E glass system windows installed. I wish I had enough money for this (see pic). It is an old Russian hallway with cement and steel blast doors.

I've heard those blast doors are hard to open and close during use because they tend to stick. Doesnt really matter though since you only need one hit with a beast like that and an intruder's head is pulped.

I've always said if you can't legally own or handle a hallway, then a basement is definitely the next best thing.

Truth is nobody wants to get hit with any piece of architecture - even a simple counter can be very deadly in the right hands. I don't know the exact numbers, but more people are killed annually by counters than any other part of a house.

Some feel that having a short hallway with a strange room wont have enough power to stop an assailant. But, I feel that it allows you to get more accurate follow up hits on your attacker.

A long hallway isn't essential for self defense. If you can't get the job done with 6-feet of hallway then you're in a full blown architecture fight and already fucked.

You should get a 4-6ft hallway. It's manageable yet can still take down a redguard or two. as for your mother. make sure to teach her proper use of her hallway such as cleaning and doorknob discipline(we don't want any accidents).

I also recommend drywall and tiling. Wood paneling is better for head bashing, but tricky because if it's not treated right, and split/built right, it can crack in cold climates. overall you're better off with an easily repairable, lighter, and more weather resistant drywall. Tile is a no brainer.

If you're willing to fill out the paperwork, get one with steel construction struts, otherwise go for treated wood. Cinderblock is too heavy for a SHTF hallway.

Door should be at least solid hardwood, none of them hollow cheap Chinese doors. Steal and reinforced doors are heavy. If you can get a light, commercial grade 30 min firedoor that is an excellent choice. A deadbolt for safety is of course highly recommended.

Windows and odd rooms and closets should be kept to a minimum, this is supposed to be a simply functioning hallway.

Dont be a rudy and hang pictures and chandeliers all over the fucking place. You're not trying to show off, you're carrying a deadly weapon.

Size of the hallway depends on where you're going. 12' is a good size, but if you're on open praries you may want to go with a narrow 18'.

Alright guys, my grandfather recently passed and in his will he's left me and my sister a house that has a few hallways in it. Nothing special, mostly plaster and drywall, there's a couple solid cement/brick walls on the lower floors as well so I'm not too worried about any kind of transfer with those but I'm concerned with the legality of a couple pre war hallways in the basement. I can't tell the exact age but I believe these are pre 1900 hallways based on the dust buildup, lead based paint lining, wooden moulding, and their relatively small size but I have no real way of finding out short of hiring some kind of lawyer or specialist, and at the risk of losing a pair of dirty but otherwise historical and completely restoreable hallways.

Tl;dr pre war hallway legality and how to get it checked without the feds taking them from me. P.s I didn't mean restore in the typical fudd "hurr throw some spackle on it", I intend on using materials from the period.

If they're pre-1900 then you're perfectly in the clear legally. Those are considered heirloom hallways and are not subject to the same restrictions we have in place now.

Good luck restoring them, and hopefully you can pass them onto your kids some day! Classic hallways like that should stay in the family.
