How to post in /jp/
Welcome, new user to /jp/ - Japan/General! Hah, just kidding, this isn't Japan/General. This is Touhou/Visual Novels/Doujin Games.
If you want to discuss the different places you can visit in Japan, I suggest you go to /trv/ (though they also seem to hate Japan there, so don't annoy them too much). If you want to discuss the Japanese language, go to /lang/ (yes, 4chan has text boards!). If you want to discuss anime and manga, go to /a/ (some series that are based on light novels/VNs/games like Marimite and Higurashi can also be discussed in /jp/, it really depends, so lurk a bit to see what's acceptable). Finally, if you want to talk about Japanese history and culture, go somewhere else, nobody here knows or cares for that stuff.
/jp/ was created as a board to get rid of Touhou and visual novels from /a/, it was never intended to be a board about Japanese culture. Most of the users here don't care about Japan, we only care about lolis and doujin games.
Ok, you already learned the true meaning of /jp/, but you aren't ready to post yet!
There are some rules you have to respect in /jp/ if you really want to be accepted!
Rule 1: Take it easy - We don't care about how inuyashasgirlfriend1997 made the most retarded weeaboo video in youtube and you "raged" for 26 minutes to it while killing your cat with your keyboard in the process. Or how some kid in Gaia plays Touhou and FS/N. We just take it easy, since we know the cause of most of these things are kids acting like kids (and if they aren't kids, we know they are just retards). This also means we don't want stupid drama.
Rule 2: Don't respond to trolls - If some guy posted something really stupid and provocative that made you angry and you want to kill him, don't respond to him. Don't even bother to tell him off while using sage; it's most likely a troll that just wants some replies. In /jp/, troll threads tend to be really easy to spot, so there's really no excuse for this. If too many people get baited, it will end up in a stupid 200 post long drama thread nobody wants to see in the first page.
Rule 3: Don't use smilies - Smilies aren't accepted in /jp/, please refrain from using them. We are all heartless bastards who don't want to see what kind of faces you make IRL while posting (This also applies to reaction images, if you want to post them so badly go to /a/ or /v/) Exceptions: ;_; (Life-like texture ;_;), 2ch smilies and ransmirk.jpg
Rule 4: Keep your memes in your board - We aren't meme fans, try to keep your memes in /b/. However, as every board in 4chan, we have our own memes too (even if we don't spam them all the time like in /b/). the most common ones are: The Pleasure of Being Cummed Inside (/lounge/ forced meme, became the generic response to every translation request), Japanese Bird Cooking pasta (forced meme that became popular), Hoopdog/Awesomedog (HOLY SHIT A DOG JUMPING 8 HOOPS ON FLAMES).
Rule 5: Irony is art - Sarcasm and irony are funny, however "LOL I DONT LIKE THIS SO I HAVE TO ACT LIKE A RETARD XD" isn't accepted. Acting like a retard to "mock" something you dislike only makes you worse than the people you are trying to mock. Neither is spamming the board with stupid shit just to be funny.
Rule 6: Be tolerant - This is 4chan, it's impossible to post here without being insulted at least once. We don't want this to become a forum, but we don't want this to become /b/ either; just try to be kind the most you can, excessive swearing and "rage" isn't cool.
Rule 7: Trolling - Trolling is fun, but it's too easy to generate stupid, annoying drama too easily, especially when you overdo it. Try to avoid trolling unless you can make it funny. More importantly, don't keep pressing when everyone is already annoyed of your shit, it's not clever at all. Please know when to stop.
Rule 8: GETs - GETs are dumb and boring, nobody cares about a stupid number. Don't act surprised if somebody scores a GET and people don't react to it. Just ignore it.
Rule ⑨: Requests - If you want to download "X," check /rs/ first. If it fails (and is porn), you can also try /r/. If that fails too, try Google. Also check the archive (archive.easymodo.net), it has a nice search feature. If it's an image someone posted, you can try the [View same] feature in the archive or iqdb.yi.org. Also try anisearch.net, it's a search engine for the *boorus. If you want the source of a doujin some anon posted, check the filename first, you don't want to be a dumbass that asked /jp/ for source on something that can be easily recognized by the filename. If everything failed, then ask /jp/.
Rule 10: Reports - Nobody cares if you reported a thread, it's not like the OP is going to delete the thread just because you reported it. Don't make single-word post saying "reported," it only leads to dumb meta-arguments about what "/jp/ really is about."
Rule 11: Imagedumps - Yes, we all know about the boorus, anisearch and Google Image Search, but we aren't going to stop posting imagedumps just because you don't like them. Go to a text board if you don't like imagedumps or just hide them using 4chan's Firefox Extension.
Rule 12: Don't be a "normalfag" - Most of the users here are loser weeaboo "NEET"s. Nobody cares if your girlfriend is a supermodel or if you are more successful than us, we enjoy our way of living, even if we feel lonely.
Rule 13: Sage - In general, sage doesn't have a negative connotation in /jp/. It doesn't mean "I HATE YOUR POST," it's just a command that lets you post without bumping. Sagebombing is also fucking retarded, a single bump can ruin your entire sagebomb and if you reach the bump limit the OP can just recreate the thread. If you don't like a thread, just hide it using 4chan's Firefox Extension.
Rule 14: Grammar and spelling - Type coherently. Firefox has a spell checker, there's no excuse. Also use proper capitalization and punctuation. Yes, we actually care about that.
Rule 15: Tripcodes - Using a tripcode or name will instantly turn you into an attention whore. Don't use one without a good reason if you don't want to be hated by every anon.
Rule 16: Don't post an ambiguous /h/ doujin/picture without the source. Otherwise you'll start a "sauce request" shitstorm. If you don't have the source, then please specify it in your post so that you'll save your fellow /jp/ers some time by not having to ask you for the source.
Rule 17: Don't roleplay - Roleplaying is retarded, if you want to roleplay, go somewhere else.
FAQ:
HOW DO I PLAY TOUHOU?:
Practice, nobody here was born with a silly hat, a frilly dress, and the ability to dodge bullets. Watching replays is also recommended.
MOOT WHY DID YOU MAKE ANOTHER WEEABOO BOARD?
He didn't want to see us in his precious /a/, because we are the part of ADTRW who got banned for liking loli and because he hates Touhou and visual novels.
WHAT IS "X" THING?
Ask politely and some kind member will respond you.
THAT GUY INSULTED ME WHAT DO I DO?
Take it easy, we don't want to see you fighting with your e-peen saber.
IM FROM "board" AND PEOPLE KEEP TELLING ME TO GO BACK THERE
You're assuming all of 4chan is the same. Read this guide again and take it easy.
We hope you enjoy your stay! Please try to follow these guidelines.
