Nope. Those are actually fairly common in Japan. Pretty sure they're erosion control / landslide prevention related.

Not a street, but some pictures I took while at the temple they took me and the other study abroad student from america to for setsubun a while back.

Sorry these aren't exactly high quality pictures, I keep forgetting to take my actual camera with me so I resort to using my iPhone.

Hm, I only got here about a month ago myself, so I'm not sure. From my understanding the weather is like where I'm from (New Jersey) for the part part, so probably not.

Speaking of which, it was pretty funny when people would ask if I would get snow back home and I'd reply "yes, it's pretty common for winter". I think the difference between NJ snow and Japan's snow is Japan consistently gets the kind of snow that's good for snowmen and the like, where-as NJ gets the fluffy snow you can't do anything with at least half the time.

I swear, the only real big difference between here and home is that everything is in Japanese. It's kind of surreal how Japanese it is, and yet how much like home it is at the same time...

Unfortunately I don't. That's quite a ways from where I am now (yamanashi prefecture, really close to mt. fuji but you can't actually see it from the town I'm in despite it being super close), so I probably won't even get a chance to see it either.

It's weird, being comfortable walking around by myself when the sun's been set for a while here in Japan but at home I'd be nervous as hell, thinking in my head about what items are in my purse that I could use to defend myself. Something about Japan just makes me not worry.

Life in Japan looks quite peaceful. Here, everyone seems to be rushing somewhere and they're always so harsh and cold.

God damn it, I just want to have a nice, quiet job in the country side. Too bad that doesn't exist.

thats because i've spent countless hours on google streetview. like 200h plus at the minimum. Exploring the reallife places of animes like clannad, kanon and many more. And even beyond that I just take a random area, move around - try to read signs etc.
