Give me one good reason to use sage instead of nokosage, /jp/.

Nokosage avoids the rude nature of saging and therefore no feelings are hurt, but you guys go out of your way to do it. Are you really that pathetic and desperate to one-up anonymous people on the internet?

I still laugh at how 4chan doesn't understand what sage means.

If only I knew moon so I wouldn't have to spend time on a board that imports foreign concepts and then DOES IT WRONG all the time.

Using sage as a way to "insult" someone's post or thread is just completely wrong and a retarded misuse of a good feature that is so popular in sites like 2ch and Futaba. Fuck, iichan and 4-ch do it right. It's just 4chan and 4chan's lame knockoffs that fail at using sage.

The true meaning of sage means that YOUR POST isn't worthy enough to bump the thread. It's ironic, because you think that you're insulting others while you're just, in fact, insulting yourself. Yes, sage can be used when posting a derogatory comment in a thread that you don't want to bump, but posting with just the word "sage" accomplishes nothing but contribute to spamming the board. The trend of replying with the name of a tripfag and sage is even worse, as it accomplishes nothing and only serves to increase the e-penis of whoever you're "attacking".

The sage feature was never meant to serve as an implied insult or general disagreement! Why people started using it that way is beyond me. There are plenty of reasons why one would choose not to bump a thread with his reply. For example, bumping threads with stupid one liner replies should be discouraged and those people should be coerced into using sage instead.

I want to use sage, yet I almost never do it on 4chan because people will jump on me thinking I'm insulting their post or something.

But feelings are supposed to be hurt. Those are feeling of ignorant outside people, said people shouldn't be here, for both our and their own good.

And /jp/ is a slow board, noko isn't necessary (unless the thread exceeded the bump limit, but that in turn makes sage pointless).
    >> Anonymous 04/18/11(Mon)07:17 No.7241853

    >I still laugh at how 4chan doesn't understand what sage means.

I still laugh at how faggots like yourself yearn so hard to be Wapanese that you think sage means the same thing it does on 2ch or 2channel.

The use of sage on 4chan has - and always will be - used in a derogatory way to say "fuck you" without having to say it. It does not mean nor have the same use as it does on our Japanese counterpart boards, where it's a casual feature everyone uses to reply without bumping a thread with their post. With the exception of 3-4 aspies on /jp/ who try to use it "the Japanese way", everybody on this website considers sage to be a rude gesture.

Pull your head out of your ass, this is 4chan and it's full of assholes. If not using sage bothers you maybe you need to stop posting on imageboards and go back to Gaia or DA.

Wow, there's no need to be like that...

Sometimes you open tabs and you can use noko+sage and sometimes you don't and use sage. What's the big deal? You can also open tabs and use sage. People use sage because there aren't any feelings hurt. People's feelings get hurt from saging on other boards but we know it's nothing harmful here. People's feelings don't get hurt from saging so there's no reason to use noko+sage. There's certainly no reason to use noko a lot of the time unless you're posting a large amount of posts in one thread.

I personally use noko+sage but that's only because I used it once and am too lazy to put it back to sage. Even if you want to follow a thread in /jp/, there's no reason to noko because it's so slow and if you really do lose it you can find it with the archive.

Sage and noko+sage have the same status here. It's only up to the poster's preference.

    >> Anonymous 04/18/11(Mon)07:50 No.7241910
Well, the only "reason" I can think of is if you're posting in an obvious troll thread and you don't want to get bitched at for bumping the thread by some ignorant jackass. Otherwise, there is none. If you prefer nokosage, go for it. I typically don't, simply because I don't like to "default" to sage (nokosage will save, where regular sage will not) but that's just personal preference.

    Easy.
First off, there is nothing "rude" in using sage. If people find sage rude, then that is that particular community's problem, each to their own and all that.
4chan, contrary to popular belief, is not -one- community.
    /jp/, /tg/, /co/, /a/, /lit/, /v/, etc are all different communities.
In its very nature, there is nothing rude with sage, there are many legitimate reasons for why one might want to use sage to not make their post count.

And as to why one might use sage over noko+sage. Well, to begin with, the idea of "stealth sage" is stupid. There is nothing you "avoid" by using it. Rather, if by the offchance someone actually does react to it, then they should just leave as it is clear that they don't like it, and that the people here would be bothered by him in return.

But using sage, devalues your post as to make it only relevant as tiny notice in the thread you actually posted in.
If people can see it, its easier to keep track of when the thread was last bumped. Even if a thread doesn't need to be on the front page(s) at all times, doesn't need it have to crash and burn.
But if one can see it, one can also make note of how the it slightly changes how the message is conveyed. If one interprets it as rude or anything like that, then something is wrong. But it can still say things such as how the message might be more directed to the followers of the thread, over the community as a whole.

There is nothing wrong with using sage. Discussing it like this shouldn't be necessary however, and I should feel bad about posting this.
