now,
a history of afghanistan. since the 1970s the place has been in a
constant state of near anarchy. the soviets wanted to implement
socialist values and use the country as a military base, so to speak.
however, the us didn't like this, since it went against democratic
values (and ultimately their power). so, the CIA spent billions
training, equipping and funding the mujadeen so they would weaken the
soviets. they eventually left, but being the tribal culture they are,
the war lords wanted nothing to do with the us either. fast forward past
a few years of anarchy, then the taliban, then the ISAF invasion. here
its 2010 and now that russia wants nothing to do with the middle east,
the US wants it for its resources and political allies. if they can
remain friendly with pakistan, afghanistan and iran, they might have a
chance if iran goes nuclear. however, if it the US were to lose its
influence over the arab population, we'd end up with lots of insurgent
groups becoming much more friendly with iran, and that becomes a
security threat for the west. so, when afghanistan finally becomes a
functional country, we'll not only have a huge business market there,
we'll have total military dominance in the region, while the chinese and
russians won't have any.
real world politics is almost like a
game of civilization, its a lot uglier than you think.
for the
record, im not american, im canadian and we also have a military mission
there. however, we're in the country for more humanitarian reasons than
military, though we do fight for control of towns, cities etc |
