  • Kimmo Alm aka "Sysop" from AnT has been spamming us for YEARS now, and has recently stepped it up. This shit has got to fucking stop.
As promised, here are all of the e-mails he has sent me over the years (and my responses).
    ↑ UPDATED March 16th! ↑
One of Kimmo's ex-moderators posted hundreds of PMs. They are absolutely hilarious/terrifying.

It's the best form of DRM. Relatively non-intrusive compared to most DRM, allows play on multiple computers, allows you to re-download your game if you lose the disk, allows you to play without having the disk in the drive at all times.

Only reasons to possibly dislike Steam are you not knowing how to use it, or you being a butthurt pirate.

They have a very specific market in Japan, and they know this market will pay a lot more than they're worth.

That sort of market doesn't exist outside of Japan in great enough numbers to actually turn a profit. They would do much better if they lowered their prices, people would be more willing to buy their products as a gamble if they were cheaper.

Obviously there isn't a western market comparable in size to the Japanese one, but it still doesn't mean they should be lowering their prices as a result. It's purely -- as of now -- for the enthusiast and extremely niche, and they do procure sales despite this limited market and pricing. I also don't think they can charge much less because they've paid an asston for licensing.

Japanese VN prices aren't high because they know the market will pay that much, they're high because they need to be that expensive for the companies to actually make a profit. And the market is willing to pay that much to keep the industry alive. The Japanese VN market isn't very large. The difference between it and the Western market is that Japan is familiar enough with the medium to understand that prices need to be that high for companies to keep making games.
