The name change to /jp/ - Otaku Culture is a lot better fit than Japan/General. Most of the threads in /jp/ before the change had little to do with actual Japanese culture but with touhou and visual novels. With the title change I think there will be more threads about otaku culture in japan in general as well, such as train otaku. Any actual discussion of japanese culture can be well suited to /int/- International.

Finally, any suggestions for a Touhou board can fuck off. It's a horrible idea that will only end up with a even more stagnant board. While /jp/ isn't perfect at the moment, the other topics and Touhou occasionally balance out and on rare occasions you get some good stuff out of the blend. Ideally we just need more moderators/janitors to try and keep the number of Touhou threads down to a reasonable level so we don't have eight out of ten threads discussing how eight different characters are sluts.

As for the changes, the name is meaningless unless rules are defined for the board. As it is, people will just claim obvious /v/ stuff is OTAKU CULTURE. Pissing on the floor threads are OTAKU CULTURE. Etc.

I am willing to see what changes moot is willing to make to the rules to more narrowly define what is allowed. I would also like to see the janitors be given clear definitions of the stuff they should be deleting.

Using sage as a way to "insult" someone's post or thread is just completely wrong and a retarded misuse of a good feature that is so popular in sites like 2ch and Futaba. Fuck, iichan and 4-ch do it right. It's just 4chan and 4chan's lame knockoffs that fail at using sage.

The true meaning of sage means that YOUR POST isn't worthy enough to bump the thread. It's ironic, because you think that you're insulting others while you're just, in fact, insulting yourself. Yes, sage can be used when posting a derogatory comment in a thread that you don't want to bump, but posting with just the word "sage" accomplishes nothing but contribute to spamming the board. The trend of replying with the name of a tripfag and sage is even worse, as it accomplishes nothing and only serves to increase the e-penis of whoever you're "attacking".

The sage feature was never meant to serve as an implied insult or general disagreement! Why people started using it that way is beyond me. /jp/ have discussed Galge/Eroge, VNs, Doujins among things and then /jp/ have discussed stuff that may be a lot harder to define such as niche shmups and other highly niche stuff even though such threads are rarer as most threads are just Galge/Eroge, VNs and Doujins.

Threads on closely related stuff have always bugged many people here, especially when there have been too many threads about one particular theme.
But for an example, the KnK books had their own movies, this could be classified as /a/ but many on /jp/ liked to discuss them here as well as the books and the rest of the Nasuverse as it all blends together.
Personally I don't have anything against this sort of thing as the conection to /jp/ is very clear, at least I would say so, and /jp/ doesn't turn into /a/ just because there happened to be a thread or two where people discuss the KnK movies.

What might cause the most trouble might be titles such as Ar Tonelico.
Ar Tonelico was developed to be, published as, and marketed as a genuine Galge game with Otakus in mind. But as the game has real gameplay elements people have bawwed about it, but Eroges such as Rance have genuine gameplay as well so in the end I really can't see why it wouldn't be /jp/ material considering how it is a Galge game with VN-ish sections.

But does /jp/ really need to change? If for some reason /jp/ would change into something not /jp/ because of this name change then I believe that many of /jp/'s veteran users could be pissed and that includes me.
While /jp/ have had it's ups and downs and a few raids, I still liked what /jp/ had becomed and what we made /jp/ and I bet that I am not alone thinking this.
