36 KB Grass-eater is the new NEET. Anonymous 06/17/09(Wed)08:17 No.2783045
    http://www.slate.com/id/2220535/pagenum/all/

Ryoma Igarashi likes going for long drives through the mountains, taking photographs of Buddhist temples and exploring old neighborhoods. He's just taken up gardening, growing radishes in a planter in his apartment. Until recently, Igarashi, a 27-year-old Japanese television presenter, would have been considered effeminate, even gay. Japanese men have long been expected to live like characters on Mad Men, chasing secretaries, drinking with the boys, and splurging on watches, golf, and new cars.

Today, Igarashi has a new identity (and plenty of company among young Japanese men) as one of the soushoku danshi—literally translated, "grass-eating boys." Named for their lack of interest in sex and their preference for quieter, less competitive lives, Japan's "herbivores" are provoking a national debate about how the country's economic stagnation since the early 1990s has altered men's behavior.

Looks like we all eat grass now.

Why does the Japanese media feel the need to invent a new label for anyone who acts slightly out of the norm?

    I was just thinking that.

It's funny, since this is not a recent nor "modern" situation. Fucking media is what's wrong.

    Because it's fun, actually.

I'm not sure what i prefer, i think NEET still has a pretty neat ring to it

    >>2783087
No, you will still die. Your body can't process vegetation properly to begin with (can't do meat right either but that isn't the point). Grass has so little of what your body needs that it won't be enough to sustain you short term let alone long term. I'd give you a few days at most till you die of starvation. I'm leaving infections and whatnot out of this, and there are some fun ones you can pick up from eating grass.
    >> Anonymous 06/17/09(Wed)08:32 No.2783099
    >>2783089
Yeah but NEET is too specific and doesn't necessarily imply what the thing in the article does.
    >> Anonymous 06/17/09(Wed)08:33 No.2783103
I can't stand the term, personally. "Herbivore?" Good Lord. They're limp-wristed faggots, plain and simple.

That's Japan for you. Not the norm = weird and with the birth-rate and economic situation japanese society should reflect itself, but with conservative societies that doesn't really work, and obviously they won't change anything so at least they want to know the consequenses and counteract or even demonize them
    >> Anonymous 06/17/09(Wed)08:41 No.2783127
For all those who still haven't realized, the topic means "Grass-eater is the new NEET" not "Grass-eater = NEET" as in newest media sensation, not replacement of terminology.

    >>2783103
It's been common nickname for people who abstain from "meat", although uncommon and even rarely used to describe priests. This has been going around for centuries, so what are you trying to do? Imply your masculinity and virility? That just makes you sound like a child earning for attention from his peers.

A monotonous diet of anything will eventually kill you. Humans are omnivores, and do best with a wide variety of foods. Of course, individual differences will mean that some people can't eat things that others can, with peanut allergies being one of the more drastic examples.

Oddly enough, all infections I'm aware of humans catching from eating grass aren't actually from the grass, but from whatever happened to take a dump on the grass. Just cook throughly, and you can eat all the grass you want, though it's not going to give you much except fiber. It's really too bad that we can't process cellulose.

What people write and the truth are two very different things. They can paint it however they like, they are still effeminates, deviants of no use to the society that produced them.

If you are like that and yearn for sex, women and other worldly affairs, then you're either part of the youth summer entourage, a first-timer on /jp/ or a blatant retard, most likely all of them.

I'm afraid this board isn't for you. Good luck on your journey searching for a new place to "fit in".

Grass-eaters. Pretty much describes all Japanese. They are more effete than a French homosexual.
    >> Anonymous 06/17/09(Wed)09:17 No.2783259
Metrosexual is just a media label for a fashion-style, many normalfags wear this style. This has nothing to do with a more the taking-it-easy life-style approach.

I apologize for the repeatedly use of the term style on /jp/

Basically yeah. It's a known fact that everyone is gay in Gensokyo and that doesn't exclude yukkuris.

Therefore no, it doesn't make you effeminate but it does make you gay.
