what I've read, several communist parties were created in Japan during
the 20s after the great depression, ideas about closing big buisness,
redistribution of wealth and equality were actually very popular in
Japan during this time because of the ineffective Taisho democracy but
the problem was that they were very elitist and factional, and could
never form a coherent platform or support base but the biggest problem
of course was that communist would eliminate the Emperor, something
completely and utterly unspeakable in Japan. Rather going communist to
address these social and economical concerns, Japan went more or less
National Socialist, a mix of authoritarian, jingoistic stateism, where
the weaknesses of a democracy are removed as well as the excess of the
free market economy and renewed emphasis on the military. |
