China was a fascist dictatorship, like Russia was, and like the current America (with the difference that you get to choose which out of two dictators you want to be ruled by).

Russia returned to fascist dictatorship a few years back. This after being a frail but promising proto-democracy for a short time.

From what I've read, several communist parties were created in Japan during the 20s after the great depression, ideas about closing big buisness, redistribution of wealth and equality were actually very popular in Japan during this time because of the ineffective Taisho democracy but the problem was that they were very elitist and factional, and could never form a coherent platform or support base but the biggest problem of course was that communist would eliminate the Emperor, something completely and utterly unspeakable in Japan. Rather going communist to address these social and economical concerns, Japan went more or less National Socialist, a mix of authoritarian, jingoistic stateism, where the weaknesses of a democracy are removed as well as the excess of the free market economy and renewed emphasis on the military.

Not really, all he needed to do was to greenlight Guderian's destruction of the British army at Dunkirk. This would have dealt a serious blow to the public opinion and forced them to negotiate (much like how Japan surrendered once Stalin routed their armed forces in Manchuria).

Hitler was an idiot, the rest is history.

The Yakuza played a large part in politics after WW2.
Wether the right-sided politicians wanted it or not, they would see to it that Japan was rid from Communists and what stood against their extremist right ways.

    - American occupation
    - It's not like they hate it, Communist Party of Japan gets around 10% of popular vote

The U.S. Army was there to prevent a communist coup d'etat, which is how commies come to power.

    Pre war

There were some leftist thinkers, prominent ones were rounded up after a "plot to assassinate the emperor" was leaked to authorities and the most influential (and ironically most moderate) were hanged. A few years later Great Kanto Earthquake, police and vigilantes killed a whole lot of em in the confusion.

    Post war

American occupation and beginnings of the cold war

All Asian countries? India(and you should agree that India is nowhere near small) was never socialist, they just had close relations with the USSR. Besides that, there's the middle east with it's theocracies/nationalist dictatorships.
    >> Anonymous 10/28/08(Tue)16:49 No.1525465
Imagine the Cold War without a "Red China." With its major theater in Central Europe, and that under firm Soviet control, it would possibly have been a lot less frightening. Without a Red China supporting him, Kim Il Sung would never have dared invade South Korea. Without a Red China providing active sanctuary, Ho Chi Minh's Communists would never have succeeded in Indochina. Without the division between Communist mainland and ant-Communist Taiwan, the Formosa Strait would never have burst into flame in the 1950s and the 1960s. Without its volatile Asian theater acting as sparkplug, the Cold War would have been far different and far milder.

But is such a possibility even thinkable? It is―because the key event, the Communist conquest of China, would probably never have occured without the fatal mistake that the nationalist Chinese leader Chiang Kai-shek made in the early summer of 1946.

Chiang was a douche, but it's not completely his fault that the communists won. Here are some reasons
    1. Fucking Japanese invading when he was chasing the Communists into the mountains.
    2. No authority over more than half of China. When Qing fell, the country fell into Chaos and if you had a few guns and thugs you were the warlord of the place.
    3. No real military command over troops. Most troops answered to their local warlords. And warlords don't always follow Chiang's orders.

Southern America and Africa gets as screwed as it was.

It may look different from American point of view, because it was somewhat crucial during two wars that actually mattered in the history of US, but for the world at large there would be little difference.

    >All Asian countries?

The Communist Party of the Philippines aren't really "communist" or even a real political "party", they're just a placeholder dummy for soldiers of fortune to train in.
    >> Anonymous 10/28/08(Tue)17:11 No.1525533
Prior to and during the Second World War, Japan was pretty much ruled by a military dictatorship with the Emperor's support. Seriously, they killed one Prine Minister's brother to scare him into resigning, it was pretty crazy. The communist party was mostly underground during these years in Japan, but once the military got into power, like the fascist governments in Italy and Germany, the jailed most of the leaders. The Communists were the only people to speak out against the invasions of Korea and China with the usual "The proletariat shouldn't fight amongst themselves, and need to rise up!" stuff, which obviously just pissed off the military more.

The Japanese Communist Party is still one of the biggest communist parties in the first world, but the Americans tried their best to keep them small during the occupation.

Even I hate those commie bastards, I got admit that the CPP has an ideology drawn from 19th to 20th century political thinkers while the major political parties in the Philippines haven't.

Instead, all of their so-called "ideology" is primarily based on how to turncoat to other parties, the family dynasty shit, appeasing the rich and elite families, and how to enrich their pockets with lots of cash and fattening themselves at the expense of the masses.

So, I got to say that the CPP acts like a real party and the others are just only parties in name.

Actually, japan's the closest you can get to the true communism in asia where the hard working men gets payed like shit and lazy ass NEETs can still manage to live a rather good life.
