04/29/10(Thu)22:47 No.879202I've
seen some pretty nasty shit, but one kinda takes the cake.
I was
in Israel for about a few months working with Teva, the biggest of the
Israeli pharmaceutical companies. Now, as an American completely
unwilling to learn anything more than basic Hebrew I figured it would be
best to just live in Tel Aviv (where everyone spoke English) and make
the commute out to Petah Tikwa. The second Intifada had pretty much
wound down and while the Israels were still being their vigilant callous
old selves most of the Americans pretty much settled into our old way
of living back in the states.
Sure enough, one day, an explosion
not more than 3 blocks away rocks the absolute shit out this resturant.
Didn't know what the hell it was, Tel Aviv had not been bombed for what
people said was about a year and I had pretty much grown immune to the
fear of the suicide attacks. Once I got my bearings I walked outside and
just kind of watched the whole thing unfold. It was terrifying, and as
much as I told myself to not pick a side in the Arab-Israeli conflict
before I headed over there I couldn't help but feel awful for those
people. I knew Israel has never been very kind to the Palestinians, but
sometimes you just have to see the carnage of that war to believe it. |
