    inb4 sandnigger, armenian genocide etc

How stifling an environment is it for a non-believer like you where you live on a scale from 0-5, 0 representing a total lack of hostility toward non-belief, and 5 meaning you fear for your life if you were to speak about non-belief.

it really depends on where you live. If you live in western part of the country, it goes down around between 0.5 - 2. The more you go towards east, it scales towards 5.

    But i'd say its around 2.5 - 3 generally.

It disappeared with Ataturk's reform popularly known as "Hat Reform". It was a reform about throwing away old clothes from Ottoman Empire and catching up with western world. Fez is now only sold to tourists in touristic places.

That's really interesting. I'm American, and I would guestimate most areas of the US would probably vary between 0-3. I'm sure there are some people in my country crazy enough to try to fight or kill unbelievers, though. But generally, most people don't think about religion very much.

i know, but reforms at these days were really radical to prevent any possible setbacks. I mean almost all bonds with the past cut down.

    >>850716

Well, freedom of speech is the probably biggest problem here.To be honest, in most cases i dont say my religious views openly. Even though they wont "stone you to death", you'll face some kinds of discrimination in society.

WW1 is remembered with our victories in Gallipoli, although we were defeated general. Also a common conclusion is "we surrendered because Germany lost the war". Believe it or not, this is whats written in our history books in schools. We dont talk about or defeats much.

I really dont think Kurds want to form a country under the name of Kurdistan near Turkey, its pretty damn pointless. They don't have enough military power, and that region sucks economically.

    no, my uncle was.

You seem like a cool guy. There are a lot of people in America and other rich countries that are atheists and despise people who believe in God. The guy I quoted above is probably a racist along with his atheist leanings. That's unfortunently what some atheists are like, and not cool like you. Good luck, and you will need it in a Muslim nation like Turkey. I am a Coptic Catholic and I get a good amount of close calls.

We dont hate Greece except some nationalist dumbfucks, but they happen to exist in every country. Contrary to general belief, we dont see Greeks as enemies. Also personally I didnt enjoy seeing Greek economy failing, nations dont have to be responsible for the actions of some retarded politicians. Also our economy was always a failure anyway, we can understand how you feel.

I'm talking from the view of an average intellectual individual.

    1) Well, what can i say. As you said, its a complete mess, i feel sorry for these people left there. They arent accepted both in Turkey and their homelands. They are considered as outsiders in both places, i think they have some serious identity crisis.

    2) People who live in some southern-southeastern parts know a bit, but despite to common belief, Turks are not in very good terms with Arabs.

    3) Despite the prejudices and common belief, we show great hospitality to strangers.

    1) It's fine with me, homophobia is pointless.
    2) Another pointless thing. We need freedom of speech, not oppression. It's related with strong nationalism in this country, but i cant see any reason a person should get penalized for saying his views / opinions.

    3) People tried CHP before, but nothing different and good came out of it. Erdogan was something new, and he used power of religion very well.
