It's an expensive sort of courtesy. Only 5% of finns are swedish speaking. 15% of the budget of Finnish National Broadcasting company is given to swedish production. They have their own television channel but they don't watch it, they watch Swedish television instead.

Just because of politics the system prevails. Swedish speaking party has been in goverment for decades, accepting any decision in change of bilingualism. There still exists this old swedish money, which greatly helps promoting swedish culture.

I'm a Swede, and I'd just like to offer a few comments on my country and the other countries in my region.

I see a lot of heated comments about Sweden on this board, some of them reasonable but most of them completely unfounded and some of them perfectly reasonable.

Having travelled the world a lot, and having lived in USA since last year I've come to realize a few things. First of all the things people say about beautiful Scandinavian women is completely true, especially as far as Swedish and Norwegian women are concerned. There's a very high concentration of good looking girls in those countries, and this is one of the examples where /int/ernet know it alls will find pictures of ugly girls just to try and prove a point, but honestly the amount of hot blondes we have is remarkable. There's a reason why it's known internationally: It's true.

Someone said that they tend to be quite slutty, judging from our movies. I wouldn't say that's a fair comparison, the main thing you can learn about sexuality in Sweden from watching our movies is that it's not at all as taboo as it is in, for example, USA. Show a titty on the TV here and you will rammed in the balls repeatedly by an army of christian fundamentalists whereas in Sweden nobody gives a shit. However, I would say that Swedish girls are definitely not reserved in their sexuality and they're not seldom down to fuck.
All that noise about Scandinavian women falling for niggers and other dark skinned people is mostly untrue though, that's another typical /Int/ cliché. Every once in a while you might see a Swede dating a nigger but it's highly unusual. I personally haven't seen it in my town since the 90s. In the public arena, Sweden is very openminded, but a lot of Swedes are kinda closet racists when it comes down to it.

Nordics tend to learn writing, reading and understanding english very thoroughly in school and they became very good at it. However most schools hardly focus on vocal side and communication at all. Consequently students are not used to actually producing free, spontaneous speech in english even if they know the language in theory.
