This is now an absurdly American thread. I'm the son of an American diplomat. Been to 22 nations and have a rather good outside perspective if you want to ask questions on the U.S. Foreign Service and an outsider's perspective on America and the world.

Favorite nation has to be bar none Spain. Madrid is a wonderful city in every imaginable way. It has ancient history and culture whilst maintaining a modern infrastructure.

Italy is an example of ancient cities with shit infrastructure. Hated living in Rome. Venice smelled like putrid shit and Milan was an utter borefest.

    Beautiful countryside, though.

Wish I was. Currently living in Ottawa, Canada. Quite possibly the most quaint and sad city I've ever lived in.

If you want to learn about a nation with an inferiority complex, come to Canada!

I was fucking impressed with South Africa. Pretoria felt like a modern European city. The nigs living there were pretty respectable. Better than Cairo.

Favorite African experience was in Ghana. Their national parks are among the best in the world. If you want an example of a successful logging industry with respect to the environment look towards Ghana.

Hated every minute of China. I couldn't see three feet in front of me. I swear I was going to choke and die. Fun fact: 4Chan isn't censored there.

Tokyo, though claustrophobic on every level, was an unforgettable experience. But Thailand has the coolest Asians. Bangkok is still a city I would love to go back to. Just a little trashy and probably more so with the flooding.

Bahrain is my favorite nation of the Middle East. Dubai is great for visiting but Bahrain is the place to live in. The people there are incredibly friendly, like Americans, and Manama was pretty modern. With the size of the nation (and with foreigners almost outnumbering natives) you're bound to meet someone you know every time you leave the house.
