Lets hypothesise for a moment what would have been the outcome had america not done anything in retaliation after 911.

The attitude of most people during and afterwards for a while was, this is war now.

then they forgot about it and were like war is bad, mkay.

but what if it was the other way around. what would public reaction have been to doing nothing.

The CIA would still have fought terrorism from pakistan and what not.

Maybe some people would have called out for war, but they would have been a minority, because find bin laden = invade afghanistan isn't that obvious, and in fact, it was proved useless.

If the Arab Spring still happened, Saddam Hussein and Iraq wouldn't have that shit; instead opting to off anyone who so much as disagrees with the government. The UN might send peacekeepers, at the most.

I wish people didn't use the images of others dying as a faux edgy source of attempted humor. I degrades the humanity of the person who thinks its comical. The most accurate word to describe their equivalent is actually banned here.

Images of suffering aren't comical. To pretend they are in order to seem cool and 'edgy' just doesn't fool anyone who knows better. I feel bad for those who don't. A person who relies on shock for attention is the loneliest and should either confront that pain and try to change it or accept it and admit that's what they want. Poisoning the social pools of discussion with obscene images for the lack of better standards never helps the jokers problems. Pretending to celebrate a strangers grief as levity is no solution for loneliness. I'm not picking on OP, I'm just talking about people in general. The pic reminded me, is all.

Hi, you must be new to 4chan. Enjoy your stay, but if this upsets you, stay away from /b/.

I don't mean to argue. But no, I don't think giving it a "pop culture" label excuses it. To say 'that's just 4chan!' doesn't really cut it. 4chan itself s no good, most agree. People come for the high traffic/response time and ironically ignore 99% of it's content. It doesn't upset as such, it just saddens me that people promote the idea and possibly genuinely think posting images of real people suffering is entertaining. No one would mind if it was from a horror film and fake. But those are real people like you and me with feelings and families, who's hopes and dreams came to a tragic unnatural end. People like you and me, and we deserve better than have our death be mocked by children and mentally deteriorating adults insinuating themselves in the internet discussions of normal folks.

Anyways g2g. Have a pleasant day.

    :)

Could it be perhaps that it's just another form of black humour and is a method that was used in order to come to terms with tragedy and our own sense of mortality?

    Of course.

    >>4334546

Maybe, but it exploits the dignity of others when they are helpless and have no say just for an image. If people want pictures of suffering because they think its comical, they can make their own with software and such without breaching the dignity of a fellow human being.

    really g2g

    Have a good day all.

9/11 SHOULD have been treated as a police matter in which the FBI, CIA, and INTERPOL did their jobs and hunted down the organization and men responsible for the attack.

Because that's what we always did. Someone bombs a building, we hunt down that someone and whoever they worked for.

Then suddenly LOL IRAQ IRAQ IRAQ WMD WMD WMD SADDAM SADDAM WMD WAR WAR WAR KILL KILL KILL AMERICA FUCK YEAH.

    This is why I don't celebrate 9/11-day.

I love how a lot of people think doing nothing is a good idea.

Let the terrorists shit all over us. Do nothing. Let them blow us up and just ignore it. More people will die needlessly.
And what does that do for our international reputation? The effects are too unpredictable and wide ranging to put into words here.

I watched a video of 9/11 recently, and in one scene, as one woman was watching the towers burn, she said "I think we should go to war, like, now!" Typical dumbass blonde response, but true. When someone kills 3000 of your people in one swoop like that, you're a fool if you just do nothing. Oh, you might "condemn" (oooh) the attack, but that means fuck all.

Besides, politically there is no option. The people want revenge. Its only after a short time that they start saying "Hey, government, you're evil for doing that!" and going back on their desire for revenge/dealing with the problem swiftly. People are stupid.

Iraq had nothing to do with it you dumb prick.

And the Taliban were harboring Bin Laden, the man who confessed responsibility. They operated a state - Afghanistan. So it becomes the responsibility of the MILITARY, not the fucking state troopers. Dipshit.

I agree with what youre saying about peoples attitudes . but the war hasnt made you any less safer against terrorist attacks.
