But even the current youth born in yugoslavia take sides nowadays over one "country" or the other based upon religion. Seriously... Yet, they would all prefer a re-united yugoslavia somehow...

They were, the Habsburg Army was atrocious, poorly managed and dominated by ethnic tension from 13 different ethnic minorities. Couple that with using slavic forces to fight against their 'slavic' brothers with mass defections to the Russian Front it's more amazing the Empire managed to hold off the Italians.

I have no qualms with the Serbian forces, you guys fought quite well and I apologize if I gave the impression that I was implying the Serbians were a cake walk. That being said, having the German Empire dictate our military policy was a huge detriment to our WW1 fighting capability. It was stupid on our part to not accept Serbia's agreement to the demands imposed upon them by the Austrian Government (I believe you guys agreed to everything but one demand). However I truly believe that the loss of the Empire was a loss for the stability and peace of Central Europe and instead of having some semblance of a unfied group the region devolved into small states bickering and fighting amongst each other only to get swallowed up by whatever Dictatorial power was the flavour of the month.

Of course, id rather have you 'keeping the peace' than England, as the British flourished politically in both world wars. I of course frown upon Austrohungarian and Bulgarian atrocities, more so since we Serbs are 'tagged' as genocidal monsters. AH military and police in Serbia, until further notice. Not gonna happen, especially in a country so newly independent and proud of it. Shit in the mid-19th century Russia, Serbia and Montenegro were the only independent Slavic countries. It's funny, there was a movement in the Polish Part of the Austrian empire to try and unify Poland under the Habsburgs and make it another nation within the Empire (Like Hungary), Croatia was planned as well but WW1 cut everything short. What's depressing about all of this is that France and England recognized the role of Austria in the region but Wilson insisted on the disolvement of the Empire. But hey, at least we got some kick ass buildings out of it and a feeling of continual nostalgia.

Hungary and Croatia I think would be pretty sympathetic to it. The Habsburgs were huge advocates for admitting Croatia into the EU. That being said the EU is basically modeled after the Austrian Empire with a legislative head instead of a Kaiser.
