It was part of a series of efforts to assimilate the Scottish Highlands, ending their ability to revolt, and the first of the 'King's laws' which sought to crush the Clan system in the aftermath of the Jacobite Rising of 'Forty-Five. These laws were finally repealed on 1 July 1782

Let Italy boast of her gay gilded waters
Her vines and her bowers and her soft sunny skies
Her sons drinking love from the eyes of her daughters
Where freedom expires amid softness and sighs
Scotland's blue mountains wild where hoary cliffs are piled
Towering in grandeur are dearer tae me
Land of the misty cloud land of the tempest loud
Land of the brave and proud land of the free
Enthroned on the peak of her own highland mountains
Te spirit of Scotia reigns fearless and free
Her green tartan waving o'er blue rock and fountain
And proudly she sings looking over the sea
Here among my mountains wild I have serenely smiled
When armies and empires against me were hurled
Firm as my native rock I have withstood the shock
Of England, of Denmark, or Rome and the world
But see how proudly her war steeds are prancing
Deep groves of steel trodden down in their path
The eyes of my sons like their bright swords are glancing
Triumphantly riding through ruin and death
Bold hearts and nodding plumes wave o'er their bloody tombs
Deepeyed in gore is the green tartan's wave
Shivering are the ranks of steel dire is the horseman's wheel

    O flower of Scotland
    When will we see
    Your like again
    That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
    And stood against him
    Proud Edward's army
    And sent him homeward
    Tae think again

    The hills are bare now
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now
    Which those so dearly held
    And stood against him
    Proud Edward's army
    And sent him homeward
    Tae think again

    Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
    And be the nation again
    And stood against him
    Proud Edward's army
    And sent him homeward
    Tae think again

I could see Scotland separating from the EU if they formed their own country.

Because we English are arrogant cunts, the Tories are MASSIVE cunts, and having your ability to rule dictated by either is, as things go, illogical as a long-term strategy for surviving as a country. Plus every time somebody says "Scotland will fail without England" they have apparently forgotten that the EU ever existed.

Scotland will be fine as they are, sure, but there ability to govern themselves now is not guaranteed or absolute and any chance to make that the case is for them, a good pursuit.

Oh my, we've been playing a lot of Medieval II recently, haven't we? That's word for word the spiel given by the Scottish ambassador. Scotland was annhialated a few turns later of course.

and it's nice that you've got a word for us south of the border, we don't have the same privelage. I don't think you were ever considered enough of a threat.

I guarantee whatever fucked up reason you for Labour's apparent failure is somehow them simply doing a shit job on something the Tories did.

Unless it's Farming related, that's the one thing conservatives get right. Too bad farming is a community of leeches whining about their business becoming mildly unsustainable.

    DEFINITELY FEEL.
Stay out of EU to keep immigration down and to stay out of southern affairs and general Euroshit. The national model for an independent Scotland should mirror that of Norway since both have a small population and lots of oil money. Despite recent happenings, Norway is actually one of the nicest countries around and the conditions of their existence are basically the same as those of Scotland.

    hahaha, oh really?

Well, why don't you get planning your little bomb plot or school shooting or whatever you want to threaten the EBUL ENGLISH with, the sooner you realise the state of Scotland is more the fault of the Scottish people themselves and nobody else the better.

What? Right now Scotland is a better place to live than England.

I mean, you guys have to pay for Univeristy, Prescription, the Dentist and Water.

We get all that free thanks to Socialist SNP government. Also we don't need to pay any more taxes than you.

Economically it's very much like Norway - smallish pop and lots of oil.

And the cultural links and historical links Norway has to its neighbors are the same as Scotland has to ITS neighbors.

They're both former warrior countries gone peaceful that have a bit of a racial-isolate pride complex going on.

Selling off the gold reserves at an all time low? That was a pretty big fuckup.

Having three consecutive majorities in parliament and building the biggest national debt the country has seen since WW2? that was a pretty big fuckup.

Growing the public sector to a massive and unsustainable size, with horrible inefficiencies just to boost unemployment figures?

How's the British manufacturing sector they promised would be reborn? Oh wait.

I'm fed up with all the parties on offer. But Conservatives were the lesser of two evils last election, and they're pro nuclear. Which suits my job prospects.

There's not that much oil left in Scotland, bro. and what happens when it runs out? Norways set aside the best part of half a trillion dollars for when theirs goes. Bear in mind you're both drilling the same fields here.

No it comes from british taxes which are paid to the UK government, which then allocates Scotland a national budget to spend in whatever way the government sees fit.

Also I should point out that the way the budget is calculated, via the barnett formula, is pretty unfair to Scotland, the British government keeps alot of our money, this is another reason for independence.
