Hockey is that big. I don't even know when, or how, but it is. It really is something we can call our own, even now. It's like Tim Hortons, like baseball and apple pie for Americans, like anime for Japan, and like rugby for whoever made rugby. Without a doubt the biggest, sport, pastime, and source of sports entertainment. So there.

    >>1053614
It depends on who you are. If you're a right wing, Christian fundameltalist republican, then Canada is your worst nightmare! Shall god smite Canada and its commie socialist regime!
If you're actually a normal person, then yes, it pretty much is like the US but better. The problem with Canada is that it is a very complicated country, sort of like the US, France, Britain, with a little bit of Nordic, a little bit of China, a little bit of India and Korea, mixed up in this crazy ball that has absolutely no idea where it came from, and yet it all pieces together quite nicely.
You can definitely be rich in Canada, our dollar is on par (and sometimes better) then USD, own as many guns as you like because god knows we dont go around shooting 14,000 people a year.
The best place in the world is going a little bit far, admittedly, and you can't ask me because I'm biased, but based on statistics and reports that I have seen, it definitely is one-of the best in the world. Its like America without the crazies, without the corruption, without the blind American patriotism, without the horrible horrible horrible banking system, without the arrogance, and with socialized medicine and a monarchy here and there.

Also, everything, everywhere is written in BOTH French AND English. I wonder if you knew that already?

Too many people come to Canada knowing full well getting in is easier than finding a teabagger in Texas, and they take advantage of the system and the government by leeching off the rest of the people who live here. It really doesn't happen THAT much, but it happens, and it's no good.

    >>1053680
    ¿Por qué? ;_;
I never understood why Americans believe this. Random polls have shown upwards of 90% opposition to the idea of being the same country. Now thats not something like a union, thats becoming more states/ruled by American government/etc. Canadians would go to war with the states (knowing full well they would lose) before they joined... So I never understood why people who don't live here cling to the idea that it would one day become part.
But what do I know, I'm just some guy from Edmonton.

Why are you still under the British crown/Commonwealth? Very disappointing.

I go out all day and my thread has turned into a mini Stormfront? Who knew? Well, better get this over with.

    >implying the worth of a country is dependent on its flag
Granted, we don't have a colourful history, but I don't want to hear about colourful history from a German, no offense. Music is pretty bad, food is not great, some nice beaches though. Military is not necessary for Canada, not really, especially when theres a perfectly gung-ho character right next door. Stolen land, definitely. It's not my fault though, and I guess they try to keep things on good terms with the aborigionals, which doesn't explain why they drain the resources of the working class.
But despite all that, people keep living here, people keep moving here, and people keep enjoying life here. Maybe people value different thigns when it comes to quality of living, maybe people realize that life here is way better than the other parts of the world with no wealth, no structure, no education, no health care, no support. Life is good, too short to be bashing Canadians.
"You guys have a shitty country!"
"Yeah, sucks eh? Oh well, hockey's on, and I'm happy."

Now peacekeeping, that's somewhat of a national treasure here. Google "Lester B Pearson", the guy, not the airport.

I'll bet they're both pretty good. I actually don't have maple syrup all that often, to be honest. I prefer strawberry/blueberry syrup.

    More otw.

Yeah, being racist can be a bad thing here. Like it's insulting to be called a racist, due to there being a large emphasis on multiculturalism as a staple of Canadian culture (if you can call it that, and you can't really). Also, being polite to other people and other cultures is something they force you to learn every day, every year until you suddenly appreciate the Chinese population in Vancouver for being there, and don't even know why you are, it's like a reflex.
People brand racist speech like hate speech, and personally I don't mind that.

    >>1058329
Because being Canadian means you don't have to be American, it means you don't have to be labeled as ignorant/arrogant/impolite/bad-tempered etc etc.
That doesn't mean people here don't act that way, but it's no different really than Australians proud to be Australian, than Japanese who are proud to be Japanese, or Americans proud to be American. Freedom, fuck yeah.

    >>1059043
You say that like it's insulting! Who wants to be a superpower? Don't look at us. Superpower your way to stardom all you like, it's not like we're stopping you. Life is just easier when you aren't the centre of attention all the time, you know? Maybe you don't like it, but we sure do, and that's all you can ask for, really.

I still dont know what they gain, some doughnut shops and acres of tundra. And it's not like people here would ever let that happen, like I said we'd probably go to war and lose in a day before that happened.
Just because Russia and the Ukraine are similar, and Russia is most definitely a superpower and Ukraine is not, doesn't mean they're gonna go marching in to take over. (Now, 100 years ago maybe).
The Americans lost their chance in 1812, too late to change it now.

It probably won't, but don't take offense. Still bros4life.

Our contribution will always be a small one.
    Pic related.

    >>1059371
See? Just do that and move on, I'm sure your countries have much bigger problems to deal with than a lack of history and multiculturalism.

    >>1059475
Unfunny, yeah. But you don't really hear "eh" unless you go to the Atlantic provinces.

    >>1059541
    >implying that means anything
Right now, it doesn't do anything if we are or aren't, they have no real power here, and we've only been a country for 30 odd years anyways. Go ask Australia the same thing though, see what they say.
for both of us, I'm sure its something along the lines of "nothing to lose", and taking down all the UK flags everywhere would just take too much time, screw that.

Canadian here I approve of this thread. And FYI no one says eh? unless it's used in a joking context.

This entire thread is just retarded.

It consists of hate on Canada, even when dumbshits turn their heads and say, "CANADA, MOST BORING.". Boring? Okay, then settle down with the hate. We are your only friends, USA.

As for you, Germany, I thought you were cool. Even if your entire armed forces is fat.

Bad world. Smarten up. At least Canadian banks rose through the recession and the dollar is paired with the USD.
