Lets try this.
-Post your artwork that needs correction (pose, anatomy, composition, lightning, general advice)
-If you can redline, try to help other anons in this thread, even if just a little

Requirement: Dont post unsalvagable shit. Nobody's gonna draw your picture for you. Beginners and complete beginners should stay put and focus on studying.

Also:
>discuss, anatomy, composition etc
>stop bitching, nobody is perfect on /ic/ anyway

cant draw as good as you two, but maybe still be usefull (still stay sceptical to what i say)

>>1364726
-upper thigh too long, lower to short
-hand to big (try to compare it to the foot which is too small, even when you take the angle in credit. put your hand on the underside of your foot and compare the sizes)
-where is the other leg? this way it looks like its missing, even when the leg can be covered fully, try to avoid such stuff, it tends to look odd
-i dont really can see where the exact position/angel of the hip is
-angle between the floor and foot seems of (like its angled into the floor)
-is she looking somehow up or directly at the wall in front of her? anyway the hair crest should be (a bit) more to the left in both cases

>>1364736
>Too big heads probably
-wouldnt say the head itself, more like the faces compared to the size of the head (make em smaller)
-there is something wrong with the anatomy between the lower chest and the pelvis, but i cant really put my finger onto it (looks a bit like you added 10cm extra to it)
-hands: compare the length of the fingers to the base length of the hand-> fingers are to long or handbase is to short

hope that is helpful
>>
>>1364759
might sound a bit harsh:
1. somewhat finish your drawings
2. take pictures from an better angle (atm its hard to tell if angle errors are in your drawing or by taking the picture)

>>1364762
-dunno what to say to the head...so i pass that
-all the limps seem a bit off
-picture left arm: upper part a bit short, lower part a bit to long
-picture right arm: it looks a bit like its all flexible and curved (look up Bender from Futurama to know what i mean)
-picture right hand is position a bit to high on the connection to the lower arm
-picture left leg seems to be connected a bit to high at the pelvis
-picture right leg:notice how you can almost draw a straight line from the connection of the leg at the pelvis to the foot? try to avoid that, if the shortening aint made perfect it looks like a short straight leg.
-all the decoration on the creature makes it a bit hard to determine what is what and if the anatomy is correct beneath it (somethin i tend to do too)

no red line. would never get it done with my son here. 1. right leg is forced into frame. extend leg to relative proportion. 2. pelvis is physically cut in half. 3. remember that legs begin closer to the waist and give her a buttocks. 4. disembodied calf. where are hip/thigh. even at that angle some portion should be present.

I'm no expert tho. Just eyeballin the framework.

I actually feel like a bit of an idiot with such an early WIP, but a lot of times I will get stuck on a detail I just cannot manage to make look right no matter how I do it. Today it's the hands mainly. I would take my own photo references, but it's supremely hard to take a picture of your own hands.

And obviously the rest of the body is shit, so if you wanna rail on that too, it's cool.

Shoulders, arms and legs. I'm not too sure what size they should be since everything else is rather curvy and large. I've gotten into the habit of just cutting them off since I don't know how to do them. I also have some issues with making sure everything is aligned properly.

I used to do a lot of zombie art. This just reminds me of a dessicated, reanimated fiend. The hands are of a good proportion and structurally sound. Your overall body structure is solid, the only thing that messes with my eye is the right pectoral muscle. At the same time I've met people that are pigeon chested ( a common anomaly), and so it really doesn't bother me to the point of giving a fuck.

Tl;dr - the shit's fine, keep doing what you're doing and finish the damn project.
>>
>>1365765
It was actually just a doodle I did for someone in another thread asking how "early sketches" should look, and I liked the proportions and pose, so I rolled with it. The chest was supposed to be kinda atrophied, like, his hands are tied, so they don't move much, so they're basically nonexistant. I probably will slim down the arms, they seem a bit too muscly to me. Also, I think the head is too small in relation to the arms and legs.

More than anything, I want to let go of the obvious style I've got going on where I spend too much time making anatomy obvious. I have a very hard time actually drawing realistic figures, and I hate that. Like, everyone gets it, there's muscles. Now stop drawing them because it looks stupid and everything doesn't need to look like a bodybuilder.
>>
I am having a lot of issues with the figure's torso / shoulder, please help.

Just a few things I noticed. Not sure if it helps.

1- nipples should be at about 45 degrees from collar / sternum junction

2 - delts and pecs should connect

3 - hair is either extremely large or doesn't connect to head.

4 - shoulders a little narrow for size of head.

I'm not perfect by any means, but I just happened to see that.
>>
>>1365770
Under other circumstances I could see that, but you're dealing with a live corpse. Go look at an unwrapped mummy and tell me you're doing the wrong thing on this one. I get wanting to try something different, but this is pretty good. Also, head size seems to match the bone structure.

His right shoulder looks shorter than his left shoulder. You tried to bring his arm closer to his body and ended up moving the joint too. His feet are too small, but I think his proportions are within the boundaries of possibility otherwise.

You're putting too much detail into the skull as something you intend to just use as a base for his face. Maybe the Loomis method would work better for you for structuring your faces: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL39135B8D190B7C97

You've also made his neck muscles WAY too big/wide for someone with that little muscle mass everywhere else. That's a steroid neck with a a regular work out body.

Yeah, I definately got carried away with the skull. Was pondering what the fuck to do with the face and just blacked out while painting.

Aside from the generic design, the only vibe I get is someone who learned to draw by studying comic books from the 90s. Stiff, odd poses that make no sense, one leg bent AND to the back of the scene, yet the exact same length as the one closer to the camera, missing an arm/hidden out of laziness, and what the hell, have you ever tried to do that with your arm? Put your fist to your lower back? It results in an elbow very much turned towards the viewer, not a straight on profile of the arm.

Leanr your anatomy and perspective, and try again.

My comments are basically the following:

First, he's too short for his proportions. It's very hard to be that thick and that short. The pose was a bit stiff and unreal for a man standing like he's supposed to be relaxed. Outside of that, your anatomy needs some more understanding of muscles. You grasp form fairly passably, I can tell from the skull attempt, but you're not translating that to your drawing of the body itself. Spend some time learning the actual muscle structure of a human body, what each form does, how it moves, where it inserts and bulges out. You need to have a sort of awakening to the actual underlying structure, and how it all works. Hell, just the revelation about the structure of a shoulder and how it moves will be a big help to how you build your forms.

My doodle was a little bit of that anatomy, and some tips on the pose and how to make it a bit more natural. I threw in some facial structure markers so you can understand how I go about building my faces.

I need help. I think there is something wrong with the legs, but that may also be because of the pose I chose.
When making this I used a good quantity of drawing tips and tricks pics I found on this board a long time ago.
I just need to get the proportions right.
>>
>>1367110
Any reference picture??
legs too short, study some anatomy and proportion.
and when you put you weight at one leg, the upper body will bend, just try that pose in front of a mirror.
And the shoulder lift up unnaturally, it should be a it down when relaxing
Other seems correct enough for a beginner.

Sorry I don't have my board now or I can make a red line.
>>
>>1367110
Is she supposed to be a midget? If not, arms and legs need to be slightly longer.
>>
>>1367110
Head is too big, calves are too short and thick in proportion with her thighs, feet look weird, and her hands look stiff.

as far as the legs go it looks like you were trying to fit her into the image size you already chose.

Establish a solid base in human form/ realistic drawing then branch out and find your style.

Learn how perspective works, and find some basic objects to put on your desk and paint. If you can find basic shapes (wooden, styrofoam, etc) you can spray paint them with a matte gray and go from there. Otherwise you can always do apples, eggs, vases, etc.

Yeah everything is proportioned differently in Manga and since the emphasis is on the eyes they are usually over the Hair and if you're going to correct something make sure its in a drawing since this is a red line thread.

No, he's absolutely correct. The first step of redlining is telling what's wrong. Regardless of the "style", certain things need to be in proportion.

>>
>>1373345

Do not take this the wrong way, but a corrective drawing isn't going to address the underlying problem you have (and this isn't addressed to you alone, you just happen to be the latest one).

It is easy to say of your drawing "the head is too big" or "the navel is too short". But what do you do when you must draw the same thing from a different angle? Moved closer to the subject? Those suggestions would become broken. They are answers for one specific instance of angle and distance. Tackling each problem this way on a test of infinite length is mentally uneconomical.

Proportion is the most easily variable element of the figure. Heroic proportion is a reflection of the momentary aesthetics of the zeitgeist. Average proportion is readily made false with a shift in geography. And, by the hands of a skilled stylist, drawings which take even greater detours from average proportions than yours would still be appealing.

Look at the redlines and critiques which are already in this thread, and extract the most important nuggets of information on the construction *process* and the application of perspective. Those things seem to be almost completely absent from your drawing, but they are the answers with the broadest application. They needn't be drawn specifically for your image.

If you were going for a slight bird's eye view, you would use 3-point perspective, not 2-point.

You just add another vanishing point way down under the horizon line. Anyways, I wouldn't advise a bird's eye view that's too far up.

I just wanted to say this: I believe that the face proportions goes Hairline, BROW, base of nose, chin; not Hairline, KEYSTONE (I don't remember the name for this part), base of nose, chin.

Yeah I just drew it a bit sloppily. I meant to have that match the brow. Remember also that the 1/3s aren't perfect and the true thirds will be a bit different on each person. That area in general is a bit confusing. The glabella (what you call keystone) actually covers a sizeable chunk and extends a fair bit lower bit also a bit higher than the brow ridge. Also worth noting is the eyebrow itself which a lot of people use...it's not a good landmark since it varies from person to person a lot and as I've shown it actually wraps over the brow ridge making it more confusing. The landmark Loomis uses is the brow ridge shown in blue, but the top of the glabella is also acceptable in my opinion (the difference in height is minimal. The thirds aren't meant to be law anyways, just a general guideline.

You're right. I just wanted to point out the "standard" proportions which a lot of people use.

How do I do a better job at Having completel forms

I'm guessing I just need to go with a smaller brush over time to get more smooth color transitions but how do I create a nice defined outline without having a line

not sure this was the type of person you were going for but eh.

when drawing from imagination, it's really important to know the directions of the features. for example the verical lines, you need to make sure the positioning is correct otherwise the features will slide off.
also study the face in depth. otherwise you wont ever figure out how to draw certain features from all angles.

think in 3d, construct things using 3d shapes. etc etc

Learn 3 point perspective if you wanna be able to draw the background.

I use a crappy like 5.8' by 3.6' and it does fine imo but I've never had anything else so..

Bystander but i'm also having some trouble thinking in 3d. Particularly with the lips, i can't seem to get them looking natural or like the face is pouting. Do you have any further advice?
