    >Been awake for three days in a row.
    >Completely sleep deprived.
    >Drawing at 4:00 in the morning.
    >Hand smudges against paper and ruins my drawing.
    >Go insane and rip up paper, nearly flip over table.
    >Head over to wacom site and blow 2,000 on cintiq.
    >Head smacks down against the keyboard and sleep there for nearly 13 hours.

    >Wake up.
    >Realize what I just did after seeing an order confirmation email.

Okay, so I'm a complete novice and have little to no artistic ability at the moment. Will I be able to just start working with this and keep learning the fundamentals or did I just blow 2,000 dollars on something that I won't be able to use for at least another year?

    send it to me

The thing about painting on the computer is that your "original" has no more genuine value than the 2,000th one you've printed off.

You get NOTHING for it except bits and bytes; and in the end some one ends up copying it and selling it anonymously on some paysite or shit like that - or worse - it gets copy-pasta'd a million times and it becomes a worthless piece of shit on some Islamic Extremist's poster sign. (you know the one I'm talking about).

Computers are good if you're JUST in the illustration field of work OR are using computing power experimentally and innovatively (i.e. demoscene)

OP those tablets are mostly for pros who make money doing design and illustration. I suppose they are awesome though, lucky youre starting off with an amazing tablet. I hope your mom doesn't find out.
    >> Anonymous 03/01/11(Tue)22:43 No.905721
you should probably return it unopened unless you have $2k lying around.

you don't need a tablet to draw, especially if you're a novice.

i'm a novice too and i do have a not-$2k tablet on the way but i'm not waiting by the mailbox for it because i have a pencil and paper and eraser. i'm practicing every day anyway.
    >> Anonymous 03/01/11(Tue)23:43 No.905763
    hey you fucking cunt

send that to me you dont need it
    >> Anonymous 03/02/11(Wed)00:06 No.905779
You could look at it as motivation to draw... get your 2k's worth :/ A lot of digital skills on a tablet translate over to traditional fairly well.

Also, you probably won't get it from the wacom store for a while; when I ordered mine, they said it would take ~ 3 months to get it out from backorder. So if you have BAD buyers remorse, you can still cancel it.
    >> Anonymous 03/02/11(Wed)00:24 No.905782
You should be able to use it just fine, but I'd return it and just put in pencil miles.

If you're considering a tablet, see if you can try out a couple different ones. I know of several people who prefer the Intuos over the Cintiq. If you're in that category, you could save yourself a thousand bucks.

Seriously. I see this in every cintiq thread
    >> Anonymous 03/02/11(Wed)02:44 No.905870
Cintiq's are MUCH easier to use than regular tablets. IMO at least. It's pretty much the closest thing you'll get to digital art that feels like drawing on paper.
But I get mega retardohands when I try to use a tablet without an LCD display, so I may be a little bit biased.

ohh yeah, that's why 99% of digital illustrators use regular tablets. Fucking jackass.

Well I suggest you keep it but do more practice with your pencil before you get good enough.. you could try using it instead of paper right off the get go but.. it doesnt really give the same experiance has drawing stuff on paper will

Also, dude i totally did what you did, i smudged my hand over an awsome picture and ruined it, now i actually find it easier to keep my hand on my lap instead, but thats just me, ((I fucking WISH I had a cintiq ;..; its not like a wacom tablet is bad.. s'just... damn dude :C))
    >> Anonymous 03/02/11(Wed)06:50 No.905947
Cancel it and get a cheap wacom for now. And you really shouldn't be so damn precious with your drawings if you're a complete novice.
    >> Anonymous 03/02/11(Wed)06:53 No.905950
    oh, dude :D
    you just made my day.

pro's of a tablet: more sensitive than display screen and your pen is not in the fucking way of your drawing.

You get used to tablet if you replace your mouse with it and just use it all the time that way (when you browse or play games).
    >> Anonymous 03/02/11(Wed)10:04 No.905995
not OP but, I have problems using my tablet because I still cant c my ayes and my hand when i draw... also same way with pressure
    :c
