hey what sup traditional art fag her i was wondering if i could get some pointers on painting i have a wacom bamboo and sketching and outlines are easy but when i start painting i get lost in all the layers and what should go under what and opacities and stuff

so i was wondering once you have the base down for say a face and you want to make depth and shadow near the eyes do you lower the opacity and create another layer??..explain

pic semi related its a quickie sketch

There is no 'right' way to do it.

I usually work on two main layers (line and color) and add in layers when I need to work on something that would disturb what I've already done, and merge them when I'm finished.

For example, if I painted a face that I love, and now I need to paint the hair, and don't want to fuck up said face, I would paint the hair on a new layer, and once I'm sure I love it, merge down.

    Keeps everything nice and simple.

what about when it comes to opacity and flow of the color??

id to get a lighter buildup of color you use a different brush than the usual default solid color brush?

    you make a palette right?

also what about when it comes to the smudge tool?

i was working on a self portrait but i just gave up and closed it

heres a project i gave up on lol

Use low opacity to paint with low opacity. This allows you to blend colors. Don't use the smudge tool. Flow determines how many times you can paint over an area within a single stroke.

can someone elaborate more on their technique with opacity of colors

lets say you have a base color of the face [on 100% right?] you then take a darker shade of the skin tone [with how much opacity?] and start shading around the darker areas

if someone could be a gent and try and compile their process of coloring the face in a few steps

[make sure you use some detail]

because for some reason i just cant paint on cs3 for shit lol

that's because you know nothing about colors or art. pick up a book about it, draw from life etc.
    http://ipgd.freehostia.com/copypasta.html

protip: shadows are more saturated, highlight are less saturated, midtones are proportionally more saturated.

If you're really impatient, pick colors using luminance instead of brightness. it will enhance anything without having to understand it.

first off faggot i dont draw anime

so instead of trying to lecture me on how i dont understand color value

mabye try being intelligent and not draw conclusions based on two shit scrap projects and a couple of questions

also pick up a book yourself and do some more reading, try and pay attention to more detail next time when you read a post i stated i was a traditional art fag which means i work with watercolor, oils, etc. [do i have to list more for you or did you catch on to what it means?]

if i cant get a genuine answer then
