but then if you really listen to the people in it, you see that /ic/ is just the opposite. /ic/ is the old master, that berates you for your mistakes and chastises you for every misdemeanor and slaps you for sloppy work. ic is actually divided into a few groups...there are those who know there shit you might be lucky and find a post once in a while(check out some of the work posted in the draw threads or some redlines some people do maybe a thread here and there) some are cunts who know absolutely nothing about art they are just here because well they have nothing else to do only good thing they might do once in a while is is copy and paste http://ipgd.freehostia.com/ (check out the flaming threads and most namefags fall under this one)

While I mostly agree with this, I wouldn't consider most of /ic/ like this. Some of /ic/ are really just cunts. They're usually the ones that spew all over the art while not giving any way to improve it. I want /ic/ to say my thing is bad, but sometimes just saying "Oh god you fucking suck, holy shit" really isn't healthy for new artists. Later down the road this is alright, but it can literally kill a newcomer artist.

I also have the theory that most artists didn't start off completely attached to art, yet whenever a new artist comes to /ic/, we give the same ol' shit. "Art is an obsession, you need to live art to make it!" A lot of new artists usually never expect this coming into the field of art and probably would rather not hear it until they get deeper.

So in my opinion we should be honest to new artists, yet at the same time understand where they're coming from. Unless of course, they act like the cunts.

/ic/ isn't entirely overrun by tripfags and egomaniacs so it's to early to send it back to the middle ages, and those with a bit of control over their nerves can look past all the pretentiousness and enjoy of whatever that's left of anonymous + art

However, the hero isn't like the other students. The hero is the one who bears through his shouting and stands strong against his insults. The hero listens to him and takes every criticism to heart, trying hard to do better next time. In the end the hero succeeds, and he is 100 times better for it, he may still recent his master but he knows the man only did it to weed out those who would be unsuccessful. /ic/ is kind of like that. Just listen. /ic/ can also be opinionated. Like the master from Kill Bill, who hated skinny people, blondes, whites, women, Japanese people, and Americans. But his greatest student ended up being his greatest pupil is a skinny, blond, white American woman who spoke Japanese.

Sometimes you just have to shut up and show respect to your master, even if you believe his opinions to be wrong, agree with him. It pleases him and shows him that you respect him enough and have enough maturity to shut your face and just learn without having to prove yourself or go white knight.

I'm just saying, why does /ic/ have to be the old cranky master? My teacher was honest, but he wasn't brutal. He told the facts straight, but didn't try to make things seem worse than they were.

But I have a feeling no one gives a hoot about my teacher. All I'm trying to say is that /ic/ should be fair, not brutal, nor generous. Is it weak to be fair? The original purpose of this thread was to critique work, but it's more often a platform to throw invectives and ad hominem attacks.
