wacom intuos 2, size hueg, specs who knows

rating on scale 0 = diaper porn, 10 = MY DICK, I'll give it an 8. My all-time favourite part of my computer set-up, after 6 years it's still good as new and does everything I could want from a tablet. I'd give it a 10 but nothing in the world can match my dick.

Aiptek 600U, its working surface is A4 and the tablet isnt much bigger. Its much cheaper than Wacoms and if you're buying a tablet for the first time it's a great choice. It'd give it an 8.5.

While i'm tempted to put you on the right path, letting you buy an aiptek sounds like a suitably dastardly punishment for generating cancerous threads on /ic/. So yeah, enjoy your "tablet"
    >> Anonymous 05/17/09(Sun)11:29 No.395497
    >>395488
Well, I was tempted to buy a Wacom, since everyone seems to have one indeed. But I just wanted it to doodle and I didnt want to spend hundreds for an A4, for the price of the Aiptek (70 pounds on amazon) you could only get a Wacom with an A6 working surface. I didnt want to spend ridiculous amounts of money on my first tablet in case I wasn't comfortable with it, so I went with the Aiptek and i was pleasantly surprised! It's very easy to use, it has lots of macro keys if you want to actually use it as a mouse as well as for drawing and it's generally excellent value for money. I'd absolutely recommend you buy it instead of a Wacom unless you want it for professional use, in which case you might want to invest the few hundred it'd cost to get an A4 Wacom.

im looking at the aiptek 600U A4 now on ebay, one's selling brand new out of the box for £20 :)

i think i'll stick with this choice as it's a cheap starter to see how i feel with it.

    >>395497
How can you recommend a tablet over another when you've only used the shittier kind?

    >>395498
If you're dirt poor, get a bamboo, it's cheaper than 70 pounds. If you're poor but can make an investment, get an a5 graphire 3. If you're serious and want a tablet that'll last you for as long as 5 years, get an a5 intuos3/4.

A4 for tablets is usually considered too big. I have an a4 intuos3 at work, and an a5 intuos3 at home, and the only difference is my arm tires faster on the bigger tablet.

But do yourself a favor and don't touch an aiptek unless you want to change pen batteries and have it break down within a month.

    Wacom intuos 4, small
Haven't had it for long but it's awesome, might have been more awesome if it were a medium, but all in all it's an awesome tablet

and as you can see a lot of people recommend intuos tablets, so you might as well get an intuos 4 if you're buying new (which you should)
but if you aren't any intuos should be fine

Well ok, it's uh... small... whitish in colour. OLD. very old.
A Digitizer I believe. no buttons, options, yadda yadda yadda. pen held together with duct tape. Drawing area about the size of an envelope.
$50 off ebay and very reliable.

    2,4oolpi, 256 steps of pressure.
6" X 9" active area. It's like conducting an orchestra. The mouse is clunky, but this is hard 2 get used to. U pick up the pen and Ur cursor moves back to it's origin point. Can't use it much.

    Wacom Bamboo - ~$70 from amazon.com

    3.5 out of 5.

Pros: Thing worked like a charm, right out of the box. I thought I had wasted my money while it was shipping, but I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality.

Idunnos: I couldn't tell you if I don't have enough pressure sensitivity levels, it's never been an issue. Also, its only 3x5, but that's big enough for me.

Cons: I guess I press too hard, so after a few months of regular use, it has developed a smooth spot in the middle. The outside edges of the workspace/surface still have a very rough "paper" feel, yet the middle now feels very glass like. I've heard suggestions from cleaning it with risky cleansers, buying and cutting down surface appliques, to just taping a piece of paper over it. But honestly, I'm a little pissed that only a few months of casual use has worn it down so much. You'd have to ask someone with one of the "pro" models if they suffer from the same issue.
    >> GreyDeath 05/18/09(Mon)12:47 No.396253
I'm still using a Wacom ArtZ II 6x8 that has a serial connection... sooo old.

Don't do much CG painting though. I do notice that it probably doesn't have the refresh/sensitivity rate that newer pads do, I can't make really quick smooth curves without it angling on me.

Try out the small cheap one first, like it or use it enough, go out and buy a bigger one later in the future if you decide to make $$ with it.

Of course that being said, the tablet is only a Tool, need the Art Basics down first to get the full value of it.
    >> Anonymous 05/18/09(Mon)13:53 No.396281
I have Wacom Intuos, regular size and large size (one for home, one for work). There isn't a noticeable difference in the feel of working on them, and I can transition back and forth with relative ease. I believe that the size of the tablet itself is irrelevant; it could be 3x4 and you can still get as much out if it as a 8x10. If anything you will probably waste much of the surface space by getting a larger one; my medium's surface is starting to wear a little, so I can easily see the areas I work most in, and I'm barely using the whole thing at all.

Short version, Wacom Intuos = 10/10, would buy again, and small works just as good as large.
