I've been drawing all my life but I want to get serious now. What would I need. What drawing pencils do I need? What other materials would I need?

Your favorite pencil/pen and some paper. Voila, you're set.

Shit's not complicated. It's not like you "need" specific pencils and other materials. If anything you should be asking about learning how to draw as opposed to what you need.

    Mechanical pencils and lead.
Printer paper (96 bright or better, for clean scanning).
Erasers (the white ones work nicely).

These are for artists. See all the different tones illustrated inside the box? This is what you need for drawing nice contrast, varied line weight just by changing the angle of your hand, any shading from sharp hatching to fluffy layered strokes, they can pick up the texture of the paper with a light touch or fill it in with some tasty dark blacks.

OR, get yourself a mechanical pencil, its got a no line variation unless you like colouring in between the lines, and if you only have one you don't have much in the way of tone. You can shade but there's no spontaneity.

Artists pencils if you like a meaty, textured, flowing sort of result or mechanical pencils if you want a mechanical looking result.
