8 KB Best Digital Art Software? Anonymous of College Park,MD 11/25/08(Tue)15:50 No.295938
    Good afternoon /ic/

Which software is superior for digital art?

    Photoshop (Regular/Elements)?
    GIMP
    Paint.net

Because paint.net often produces cartoony art work.
    >> Anonymous 11/25/08(Tue)15:57 No.295941
lol, you put GIMP on the list of choices.

do you want other programs mentioned?
    Paint tool SAI
    OpenCanvas
    Alias Sketchbook
    Corel Painter

    Yes, what's wrong with GIMP?

    it's a totally gimped program
    >> Anonymous 11/25/08(Tue)17:07 No.295958
    Photoshop, Painter, and Illustrator.

If zou want to implement 3D art, use Maya/3dsMax and Zbrush.

Those are the only truly robust program suites.

I heard XSI was alright too, is this not so?

xsi is great for beginners, though it gets you into a keyboard layout that few other programs tend to use - personally I'd recommending jumping straight into 3dsMax and learning the controls and lingo from there.

    Gimp is a shitty photoshop.

    Protip: Photoshop is free, too.

What does /ic/ think about Paint.Net?
    >> Anonymous 11/25/08(Tue)19:00 No.296013
Corel painter is superior to photoshop in terms of creating freehand, but photoshop is needed for technical things,.
    >> Anonymous 11/25/08(Tue)19:03 No.296015
    >>296011
it's shit, just get fucking photoshop or painter already.

Thanks for the advice. But currently I can't afford either one, because I can't get a bloody job in an economy where corporations are asking for bailouts to keep their high paying jobs (read: GM, Citygroup...). Not even Photoshop elements...

And there's your fucking answer. Why are you still here? Get the fuck out and stop shitting up this board with your pointless threads. Every single one of these programs is either completely free or offers a trial version, GO FUCKING DOWNLOAD THEM AND DO IT YOURSELF.

Art Rage 2. If you want to buy it, it's only 25 bucks. You can do lots with it. Look at www.3-angled-blue.deviantart.com He uses MSPaint and Art Rage.

I always start all of my artwork in Alias Sketchbook. It's just really natural for me to sit down and toss around ideas, but work them up enough so I can export it to another program and really refine it.
    >> Anonymous 11/26/08(Wed)12:55 No.296259
I prefer Paint Shop Pro. And use Flash for vectors.

    In before shitstorm.
    >> Anonymous 11/26/08(Wed)12:56 No.296260
Someone told me you should use Illustrator or Flash instead of Photoshop.

I'm curious if he was right or wrong.
    >> Anonymous 11/26/08(Wed)14:06 No.296275
    >>296260
It depends on what you want to draw. Flash = Animators, Illustrator usually = Stylized/Vector, Photoshop = art
    >> art software Anonymous 11/26/08(Wed)15:23 No.296297
Best art software is a Wacom tablet with Corel Painter X. The combo supports styles and media beyond any vector packages for 2D apps.

That's what I figured. He kept insisting to use them for digital painting, but then again, he might not have known what I was talking about...

I have windows XP SP3 can I run Photoshop CS4? (before I go and acquire it)
