I've had the privilege of chatting with and meeting a lot of great people from 4chan over the past 8.5 years, and lost touch with many.
If we used to chat/hang, drop me a line at moot@4chan.org or on AIM at MOOTCHAT. And if we haven't, feel free to say hi.

/ic/, I am trying to schedule out my art practice and I need your help.

I am currently 18 years old and I want to build up a halfway decent portfolio in order to get into a good college.

I need to seperate out hours of practice into four years.

1. how many hours should I spend sketching everyday?

2. how many hours should I spend studying everday?

3. does the 10,000 hours of work = expert trick apply here?

I plan on submitting applications in four years because I will be done with rudimentary college classes by then.

I really want to devote my life to the fine arts, so I would really appreciate if you could help me straighten my schedule out. thank you /ic/

hyp·o·crite [hip-uh-krit] Show IPA
noun
1.
a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
2.
a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, especially one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.

For future reference
>>
Seriously, can someone answer OP's question? What's a good schedule for studying daily?
>>
>>1197150
because those two horribly stiff definitions accurately represent the colloquial use of the word "hypocrite"

yep fucking idiot

I'll admit those aren't the definitions I think off either, but regardless
I'd have to claim to be helpful for me to be a hypocrite rather than just a cunt would I not?

1. As much as you can.
2. As much as you can.
3. It never did. Just do art as much as you fucking can.

The best people in any field almost always end up being people that just can't get enough of their subject of interest. They eat, sleep, and dream about their subject all the time. Think about that and don't waste time building a schedule as an excuse to not be drawing right now.
>>
>>1197161
You're not doing so hot yourself, with your failed accusations of samefag to some guy (me) who was telling you fruitcakes to get a room and stop shitting up the thread.
>>
>I want to dedicate my life to art
>how many hours should I practice?
LOL, you don't want to dedicate shit to art. You want to be an *artist.* Fucking hipster faggot.
>>
OP, don't stress over college portfolios. Just sketch from life every day or as much as you can (not from imagination). Build up some solid understanding of how light works, how 3d objects sit in space, touch up on color theory, play around in different mediums (pick up pen and ink, or watercolors, or charcoal). You don't need amazing work, you just need to show them you are able to draw what you see.
>>
Just spend all of your spare time practicing. Stop watching TV all day. Draw instead. Stop playing video games. Draw instead. When you're in between classes at your university draw.

It doesn't matter how you divide your time between studying and actual drawing as long as you aren't distracted by other things you'll improve.

Most people aren't willing to do this. People who complain how they spent years practicing and still suck aren't doing this. It's rather interesting how little time people spend working and yet they perceive themselves as 'trying their best'
>>
OP here, I didn't mean to make everyone upset with each other.

I plan on opening a small studio in a nicely populated city and paint portraits for families and individuals. I want to be able to make quality work that my customers will appreciate and that's why I asked the question.

I greatly appreciate your input /ic/ and I hope to contribute to growing artists as you guys do when I increase my understanding of art.
