  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

The default scan made it too bright so I turned the brightness down, I think it's a bit better.

I tried drawing Matt Smith, it's still a sketch, I need to do final lining with a dark pencil but I'm afraid of ruining it since I'm not very good with details, hair and stuff.

Still trying to get my gestures down, this is about 15-20 minutes of work. Only third figure study or so that I've actually put work into past gesture. Definitely rushing ahead of myself though.

    Things I've noticed so far:
    >Shoulders certainly dont line up, have to drop his left and bring his right up
    >Legs out of proportion, feet aren't directly below his butt
    >Probably need to work on my torso anatomy a bunch as you really cant tell the ribcage from the lower and pelvis at all
    >Head angle is off and high
    >Rushing to put values in has kind of screwed me

I already know foreshortening those lower legs is going to suck many a cock.

Anything I might've missed so far?

Yeah, i just dont know what to do with the great structure. i thought about adding and rendering some more bushy/tree stuff to the building, but i guess it would just clutter the structure. then i thought about make some kind of windows or other things, to make the thing seem habitable.

Don't have time to be all thorough. So here's a lil critique-lite.
Take out the rocky/cave frame. It's hardly ever a good idea to do that. It just looks forced. Just give an indication that there was a cave there. Like the bottom right rocky stuff and then soem of the stalactites hanging from above.

That Volcano reminded me of one of Noah Bradley's newest pieces. ha
Look up ref on Volcanos. Make your character stand out a bit more. He gets lost when he's the same color and height as some of the rocks on that pathway.

Also, where the guy is, volcano and structure in the far background make a nice 3 focal points. One major one with the Volcano, obviously and 2 smaller ones but still significant if lit right. Shining armor will help the guy in the foreground. However, make the structure in the bg more prominent. Perhaps some heavenly like light emitting from it.
Also after clearing out the framing of the cave, throw in some dark clouds from that volcano.
And one last thing would be the pathways inbetween all the islands. The closest part of the pathway is as thick/thicker than the pathway your character is on. Idk maybe it's just me but it's kind of distracting. Like he can just step right on to it since it perfectly lines up. ha
Perhaps push back everything in the mg and bg with atmospheric perspective just a tad so it reads that it's a bit farther away.

Make human bigger. About 3 times his size right now. Remove the big rocky stuff on the "road" he's on. Remove that thing on the farthest side on the left, where the pathway ends. Make the island in the distance fade out more, and dont just use a solid gray, make them green and shit like the other islands, but faded out and less detailed.

take it with a grain of salt or a ketchup, i don't care. studies are great in that they teach you to draw, but if you keep drawing nothing but studies, you will forget what what it means to be an artist and not a copy machine. you said that you wanted to branch out from drawing figures, as did i, but perhaps it was wrong of me to assume that you wanted to create actual pieces of personal art, rather than drawn objects mangled together. i do think studies are good, but only when done in moderation, like everything else in life.

I hate to feed a troll but I was actually inspired.

I don't usually do religious themes but I call this one "Sampson".

the eye on the left is too far left and too high up and everything else on that side of the face is distorted, she is also missing the top of her head.

i get the feeling, and this is only a guess, that the reference you used wasn't directly from the front but you've drawn it as if it were.

Most obviously, the forehead seems very short. Other areas need a bit of improvement as well though.

Generally the eyes want to be about center of the head

Personally I find the ball and plane works well for me to get the basic proportions of a head correct. Start on page 36 of the following link to learn it if you'd like.

Thank you. Yeah, I do feel like I do that quite a lot. I tend to draw things from the front when they aren't really. I'm not sure what I can do to break myself of this other than to just keep practicing.
