7 KB Anime appreciation thread. Anonymous 01/25/12(Wed)16:52 No.1109524
I propose something different for /ic/ here today.

Lets get an anime art critique thread going.

Normally /ic/ rages at the mention of anime, and we tell you to go read Loomis if something in your art even slightly resembles anime.

Lets put all that aside and be open minded about offering one another constructive critisim for those of us who have anime/anime influenced are.

I challenge you /ic/ to do this. I challenge you to keep you insults of how horrible anime is to yourself, and to take it seriously just for this thread.

I can't helped but be impressed by some of the production art for those fruity JRPGs.
    >> Anonymous 01/25/12(Wed)18:24 No.1109648
I wish this thread the best of luck.

JRPGs are what gets me into drawing in the first place.

and still is my objective and goal as to now.

One of my favorite anime related paintings. No idea who the artist is though.

I would definitely say that there is variety of genuinely aesthetically pleasing anime and that to do it right must take a considerable amount of skill.

And fuck you for reminding me of that.

Seriously, that part scarred the 14 year old me. It bothered me for weeks after I saw it. Something about that look on her face right before she gets crushed.

    Haunting really.

local artist that I know does anime inspired paintings.

He's one of the few people I've met that actually took the style and made it something special
    >> Anonymous 01/25/12(Wed)19:12 No.1109665
frankly, interest in anime is what inspires me to draw. so if /ic/ can't stand anime then this isn't the place for me. i barely ever check in here, there's no wonder why.

I understand what everyone says about focusing on the basics, anatomy, technique and i agree 100% on all of those points. that doesn't really excuse the rabid fuming d/ic/ks who shitpost all over any time someone posts anime here. so meh, whatever

They don't though, bro. If someone posts animu for critique, and it clearly has its roots in the basics. Anatomy, value, perspective etc. and it's obvious that the person is learning/has learned how to actually draw, it's normally received well enough here.

It's the guys that post this shit that has made /ic/ so bitter about anime. 90% of animu artists are THIS, popular and feel entitled to receive only praise and consider legit advice/critiques to be a personal attack. It's just annoying.

are you fucking kidding me? look at this thread right here.
    >>1106761

i see plenty of ranting lunatics but the picture they're "critiquing" looks nothing like the one you posted.

whatever, i'm wasting enough time here already, i should be studying hands.

But that wasn't OP's picture, nor was it posted for critique. Such a thread was destined for shit anyway.

And that's not even animu, man. Looks more akin to Alice artwork than, say, Clannaids or TTGL.

    big eyes =/= animu

I enjoy anime and the art style. I don't plan on developing my style to look like it but I still enjoy it.

That reaction had nothing to do with anime. Try to open a thread with a Janaschi or Mullins picture for example. It's gonna be the exact same result. This board is just full of bitter, frustrated and extremely jealous wannabe's who just always feel the need to "critique" artists that are way above their own skill level.

    Not this.

My goal in art is to achieve the best anatomy I can while throwing anime style facial features on there.

Even though I ask for critique all the time and/or redlines to help my anatomy, I instantly get told just to stop drawing and go read Loomis in every thread I attempt to make.

I understand you must learn from the masters and study them, but /ic/ seems to be completely unreceptive to the idea of drawing something yourself (at any point in your artistic growing) that isn't life drawing, or people-watching figure drawing.

( Forgot my pic the first time I posted this. Please feel free to crit...I'm trying to make her look a bit chubby but curvy.)

first off, those heart buttons are very wrong and i think you know it. you cant get lazy with the details /especially/ in anime. second, the left elbow needs more shape to it in my opinion. her upper arm should be slimmer at that point, even if she is chubby. Her shoulder should be higher and connect more fluidly with her neckline, and her right hand seems wrong, though it's hard to put my finger on why (no pun intended). it might be worth a second look. her belt also seems like it goes up to high on the right side, even with the tilt of the hips, which isn't much. and on a personal note, i don't like the eyes. not because they're anime,, but because they lack charm. the lower lid line seems far too low and the lashes seem half-assed. nice tits though. i assume you realize shirts don't work that way though, right?

the neckline for the shirt is off center. it is stretched toward the left breast. the lowest part of the shirt neckline should be in the middle of the two breasts.
