What does /ic/ think of copic?

I'm using Letraset right now and they bleed too much, also when drawing on comic marker paper they leave behind powdery stuff that rubs around when trying to blend so it looks awful.

I'll be looking at buying a set of colours and grey/blacks for noir style comics and characters.

If not Copic, what else would you recommend?

Copic if you're looking for the best. If little things like the powder bug you, go Copic

    i myself use copics.
they need some getting used to (colorwise)
but once you start getting the hang of blending and the different colors used to create various effects they are amazing.

i only own about 120 of the ciao series, but gradually expanding it with the sketch series.
    they are mighty expensive though...

They are, I'm am looking at getting the ciao black and grey set and the skin tone for starters, and it totals £22.99 on amazon for a total of 12 pens. Are the sketch ones any good? What's the difference between them?

I'm shopping around though, but Amazon seems to be the cheapest so far.

gonna use this thread but are there any like tutorials or even established art books on marker rendering?

I would love to see those.

The sketch ones are where its at. They have the most range of values with this set, and I really like the nib that comes with them. BUT remember these things cost like 5 bucks a marker. I would suggest ebay and find one of the 72 sets or something for cheap. Theyre usually around 300 bucks MSRP but I have a set I got for 150

The Ciao and Sketch are really similar, the ciao are supposed to be the economical solution to the sketch. They come in a smaller pen so im not sure if theres less ink than the sketch ones. Ciaos come in 180 colors but the sketch come in over 300 colors. Its all preference, maybe get a smaller set of the ciaos, try them out, see what theyre like, if you like them then buy some sketch

I'll see if I can find a cheap set of the sketch ones, I would like to use them, I've seen some renderings and the quality of the ink is amazing.

I only bought 2. If I were to buy more I would only buy 2 more.I only use them for inking my comics, or just inking in general. So depending on what you are doing 4 is more than enough I think, mainly because you can change the size of the nibs and refill the ink. What kind of stuff do you guys do that makes you need a whole set?

Anyone know where I can get the sketch 72 set for cheap?

    That's me

the ciao and sketch really aren't too different.
however, the sketch has a nice grip (oval shape) and works better for me. also these are refillable, the ciao series isn't. then there is the capacity. sketch has more ink capacity.

also, if you're like me and leave the pens lying around everywhere while drawing, sketch is oval so doesn't roll away!

oh, one important aspect as well: the sketch distribute ink better. This means when you are coloring big spaces (sky) you won't get as many streaks.

I second this question. I love the way copics look but I wouldn't really know what I'm doing. A good how-to system would be nice.
