I got that desperate that I took up work at my local McDonalds.
£6.27 an hour, so it's a bit better than minimum wage, but if you put the hours in, it doesn't seem too bad.
Awful job though, It's better than living on benefits, but only marginally.
I still can't afford to move out of my parents house yet though.

You ever think that maybe they sensed some of this cynicism and sentiment at the apprentice selection day? Could be why you didn't even get called back.

And frankly, being called back to the formal interview would mean you met their minimum standard for conduct and skills.

Your complaint could maybe be valid,
IF you got called back for an interview, and
IF you talked with the other candidates enough to know they were qualified, and
IF despite you and the others being qualified, they gave it to somebody unqualified.

That's not the worker's fault, it's the employer's. Your local government isn't doing it's job: they should take the hotel (in this case) to task, fine them, and force them to pay back wages retroactively to bring up the pay to minimum wage.

It only has to happen once, and all the other employers will start being better about following the law.

Also, two "c"s in in accommodation. The slightest typo or punctuation error stands out on a resume. Force yourself to be a language nazi for a week, then go back over your resume, linkedin profile, etc.

I work in university IT right now (not helpdesk, tier 3, where real shit is actually done), have a 3.75GPA and have most of the hard classes out of the way. I'm hoping to graduate with 3.8+

I'm finishing my sophomore year right now, and have enough credits that my next 4 semesters will be 12-hour semesters, so that should be easy to bring my GPA up.

I haven't had an internship though, people haven't seemed interested at career fairs, most mentioning the fact that I'm just a sophomore.
