now that ubuntu has officially gone down the shitter, what linux distro are you (going to) use?

im using linux mint 14 cinnamon, but it relying on ubuntu in the first place means i can no longer use it. i couldn't even get 15 to install due to all the retarded shit they've done. it'd crash half the time i tested it with the live cd, and after searching a bit there wasn't even a reliable solution to it. thanks but no thanks

i was thinking of switching to fedora or linux mint debian edition. i considered arch linux too but last time i used it it was such a pain to set up everything. with mint cinnamon i can get everything ready in just a couple of hours....

>>35437174 (OP)

Slackware master race here, we beat the other distros to the end of the world.
>>
im running LMDE and i really enjoy it. Have had no problems with it at all except getting steam installed and running. It only took 20 minutes and a few searches to get it going. Super stable, fast as hell, and all the customization i wanted. I know mint isnt really /g/ approved but ive liked it over all the other distros i have tried.
>>
>>35437212
i used slackware back in 10.1 and 10.2 but there's no way i'm going back to it. i'd rather run standard debian than it

i mean, back then there wasn't even a package manager. and last i heard of it, the package manager doesn't even retrieve the dependencies. are the packages even signed? jesus. fuck slackware
>>
>>35437174 (OP)
What are you, a moron? Or a Microsoft shill?
>>
I just use gnome shell with ubuntu.

It's not hard to do. If you add ppas you can get a fairly decent 3.8 system (some things still missing like xinput2) but it's mostly great.
>>
>>35437265
>are the packages even signed

If you want the comfort of packages say hello to botnets.
>>
Elementary OS. Underrated as fuck around here.

Arch can be that. I use arch and installing it can be a huge bitch sometimes. I would still recommend trying it again, and using your smrtphone/laptop/whatever to follow a guide when you dont know what to do.

But otherwise use fedora or mint. Those are pretty great distros that dont add a ton of shit and change all the time.
>>
>>35437174 (OP)
Either fedora or something debian based, more then likely LMDE

>ubuntu has officially gone down the shitter

Except it hasn't. I'm using 13.04 right now, nothing has gone down the shitter.

Just because vBulletin had a vuln that doesn't mean that Ubuntu got hacked you fucking retard.

>>

>>
>>35437301

You mean overrated as fuck here and everywhere else. It's nothing special, still in beta, too.
>>
>>35437365

Nah, I'll grab it when it's stable, I am looking forward to it though.
>>
>>35437301
It's slightly modified gnome shell. I don't understand that project....

>>
>>35437364
that is not the point it is people like you that go I have nothing to hide so let them spy

if you rent the landlord has keys to your house,
that's fine I have nothing to hide nothing should go wrong, but you find him going through your wife's underware drawer, "looking for anything fishy"

please come down to earth
AND UNFUCK YOURSELF

You are just scrapping the surface.

If the government is doing nothing wrong, so they got nothing to hide, right? Then why secret laws, secret courts, secret orders, ... ?

It's scraping. And no, doing that command removes the Amazon features, end of. Stop crying about it.

>>35437563

Or how about you stop being such an asspained neckbeard over literally nothing?
>>
>>35437631
>end of

Nope, the amazon features is just one of the spying systems in ubuntu and if you used the 12.04 you know that thing is restored in updates when you cripple it.

just use debian xfce. Problem Solved.
>>
>>35437741
That shouldn't be there at first place.
It's pretty same as using Windows and block Microsoft's ips.
>>
>>35437779
Blocking MS IP addresses is a hack

This is clicking a button

Stop being so petty over such a non-issue
>>
you fucking retards. ubuntu has gone down the shitter because canonical keeps adding their stupid shit like mir and upstart, breaking things that worked fine and not using the alternatives which every other distro out there uses. and at this level of abstraction these alternatives are doing more harm than good. it's also them distancing themselves more from the other distros to have more control over ubuntu because canonical wants this shit to be mac osx 1.5

the amazon ads are easy to take care of and relatively irrelevant at this point
>>
OpenSuse
>>
>>35437174 (OP)
I can install Arch and get it to how I want in ~30 minutes.
Stay pleb.
>>

Another piece of crap with spyware addons.
>>
>>35437837
That's because you have to reinstall it so often.
>>
Anyone find their browsing is slow in ubuntu/mint? It seems that dnsmasq is started by networkmanager to do dns resolving, and something about this makes it slow.

Ubuntu 13.04, no problems here, everything's fine on my dad's Mint 15 netbook too.
