DDG HQ is in the US where they can easily be subject to botnet, and they would have to keep it a secret that they are an NSA funnel under penalty of death if they squeal.

They're based in the US so they're subject to the NSA spying machine and being compelled to hand over info to the authorities, like every other web company in the US. Their privacy policy stated that they didn't use cookies by default, but it turns out they had a third party cookie (which has been removed).

I just said that being outside of US is not a sufficient condition to be safe.

Also, just because they cannot be in US custody, doesn't mean they can't be in someone else's.

You might be mostly afraid of BOTNET, "the man" and how NSA is going to find out all your shit, but the rest of the world isn't exactly made of the nicest people either.
