Why did you choose CS instead of Maths or Physics ?
>>
>>35519037 (OP)
Because it's boooring
>>
>>35519037 (OP)
>Maths or Physics

because I wanted tohave thousands of job options instead of two
>>
>>35519112
This plus the exciting Math and Physics fields are just a bit out of my grasp.

Then why didn't you choose Math or Physics?
>>
Because /g/ had the analytic capacity of a peanut. No seriously, almost nobody here has a clue what the fuck they are doing.

You get to risk your life for moving a refrigerator upstairs?

So you're a design fag? Everyone I know who does that is either female or gay. Enjoy those dicks, m8.
>>
>>35519180
are you retarded? that's industrial design.
>>
>>35519169
There's a better, cheaper way- safety is paramount.
>>
>>35519180
>my sides
No, we deal with safety, process optimization, ergonomics, layout, human factors, quality, etc.
Scientifically and mathematically demonstrating the advantage of one system or model over another.

this sounds sad... good luck bro

Selling your soul for money instead of doing something that requires thinking ?

I would have stuck with the industrial design thing anon suggested.
That one is awful. Just awful.

sounds cool to me.. i dont know what these guys are talking about. ive wanted to do mechanical or structural engineering since i was a teenager, but im probably too old to start now.
>>
>>35519245
That sounds worst then CS....
>>
because i like computers ... and not being poor.
>>
Well I personally don't relly enjoy nor am I that good at math, I enjoy physics, but the fact that I don't like math kind of makes physics annoying to me, so I didn't chose any of thm.

but I like computers, I like programming, I like using critical thinking and so Computer Science was really the only choice I had, I wanted to do Information Systems or Computer Engineering, but people told me you can't get a job in Uk with Information Systems and that Computer Engineering is 90% pure mathematics, so I just passed on them.

I'm a mathematical economics, cs double major at Waterloo.

I chose not to do physics because I just wasn't as good at it as math/cs, and our cs department is actually in the math department, so I have to take all the math requirements anyway.

>>
>>35521584
research and code monkey are the only two positions for cs majors... if you spent 4 years in school studying cs and never spent any time learning about robotics, or graphics, or creating software that has an overlap in another field (my friend had to learn all sound engineering because his 3rd year project was creating music production software).

there are a ton of options though. it's not just research and code monkey, unless you make it that way
>>
But I didn't.
I picked software engineering.
>>
>all this "muh grapes" ITT

Grow the fuck up. As long as you work hard and want it, you can do anything with any degree.
>>
>>35521652
software engineering is cs with science requirements that you'll never use
>>
>>35521665
it's the other way around, Software Engineering is just a focused branch of Computer Science.

what >>35521678 said

SE is more about actually applying programming skills and not studying theory and shit. (At least in my uni)
>>
>>35521678
huh, interesting, it's not like that around here.
>>
>>35521721
oh ok i see what you're saying.

at my uni SE and CS take the exact same cs and programming courses, but CS goes way more into the math side of things and proof logic, and SE goes way more into physics and Chemistry and even has to take a bio course.

As simple as that.
Also the market is literally full of CS degree's because it got trendy last 10+ years.

I failed twice with this, because programming is not fun, and CS is not about programming.

You want to do computer/electrical engineering. CS has little to do with hardware design.

I didn't. I got a Ph.D. in physics and an Master's in Applied Science Mathematics-Computer Science

I'm wealthy for a 24 year-old who started out with nothing.

CS fags here be all like "hurrr you can't do anything with physics or pure math durrr". Sorry man, but as a physicist, I hate to break it to you from my office at a major bank, but your view of the world is pretty damn warped. I employ dozens of CS guys under me and all they do all day is write code and discuss animu (seriously, some even have user names in Japanese style, wtf?). It's not like they aren't nice guys, most of them are (perhaps that's their problem?), it's just that most of them only know Java which is per definition a guarantee you will be stuck at a pointless low-end cubicle job instead of walking the ranks to upper management. You might think physics or maths is hard and you would rather stick with the relatively easy studies like CS, but the truth is, do you want to spend the rest of your days working some pointless shitty cubicle job as a codemonkey or do you actually want to become something and do stuff in your life? Just think about it for a sec.
