Who likes the "All Day Battery Life" on the new Macbook Air?

I'm seriously even thinking about selling my laptop which I'll get a good thousand dollars out of it and using some of my job money to get the Macbook Air 13-inch.

This thread is about OS X and discussing of the new Macbook Air which is now powered by Intel Haswell.

So, more like 9 hour battery life when idle?
>>

Get a haswell built Laptop, but for the love of god do not get a MacBook
>>
Nothing new really, Apple has always dominated when it comes to battery life longevity. Now they just made it longer.
>>
12/9 hours = 24 hours

I personally prefer all week battery life on my series 3 chrome book
>>
>>34626018 (OP)
I think it looks great but remember that these chips aren't Apple exclusive. I'd rather wait until a cheaper Ultrabook has them.
>>
>>34626103
I don't even own Apple products, I'm just saying they have the better battery life on laptops.
>>
>>34626128
i wouldn't mind getting a 13 inch mba at this point just because windows 8 is shit.

OP is a shill, how much further could you go?
>>

Yeah, right. It's probably 30 minutes longer battery life than average, give or take. I get those results by undervolting.

the chips aren't, but the power management is.
>>
Oh look, this thread again!
I like being reminded every hour ON THE HOUR that the new Macbook Air has 12 hours of battery. Thanks OP, saved me a trip to the Apple website.
>>
>>34626166

Sorry to dissapoint you but it has actually been confirmed that you can actually watch movies for 10 hours straight until the battery is depleted.
>>
>>34626215

So let's hack some of that delicious OSX into our Thinkpads and call it a day.

Who watches movies for 10 hours straight anyways? I would say that's a relatively light load for any modern CPU.
>>
>>34626267

> implying Apple bothered to write drivers for thinkpads
>>
>>34626179
Yea, apple has never really had the best. Its a tiny featureless netbook built on haswel, of course the air will have stellar life. Others will soon do it better and cheaper and on an OS with actual software.
>>
I think it was PC world who reported 15 hours battery life. I'm on the 2011 macbook air which only gets like 7 at the most. Definitely going to upgrade soon.
>>
I thought it was the same thread from before, but you ACTUALLY made it again, OP?

Can anyone rec me a new laptop? I've had a MBP for a year and it's just the worst, it's only good feature is if I ever get snowed in I can use it for the heat. I've got $500

My Lenovo x131 gets 12 hours and sometimes more, I don't see why this is such a big deal.

And it has a keyboard that doesn't feel like garbage, which is important when I'm actually doing work and not browsing facebook.

"All day battery life" is with wifi, bluetooth, keyboard light turned off, and screen brightness on 2-3 bars.

Thing is though, when it's on sleep mode, it actually doesn't touch the battery at all, unlike other notebooks where the battery drains when on sleep mode
>>
>>34626765
>Thing is though, when it's on sleep mode, it actually doesn't touch the battery at all, unlike other notebooks where the battery drains when on sleep mode
We call that "hibernate" mode. And yes, other notebooks have it.
>>
>>34626736
And those who do probably prefer to use a desktop.
>>
>>34626765
>Thing is though, when it's on sleep mode, it actually doesn't touch the battery at all, unlike other notebooks where the battery drains when on sleep mode
That's called hibernation to the rest of us. Sleep mode powers ram, allowing the computer to resume faster. Hibernation is when the computer saves the current ram state to the hard drive and fully shuts down, which requires no power. Windows and Linux systems allow the user to choose which state to use.
>>
>>34626806
My Acer drains battery (takes about 20~ hours though to completely drain though) even on hibernate.

The MBA seems to take longer since I've left it on hibernate for a whole weekend and had the same amount of charge when it booted up.
>>
>>34626765
Please don't post if you haven't the slightest as to what you're talking about.

Thank you.
>>
>>34626915

>>

lol
>>
Is it bad that I just purchased it?
>>
>>34626869
hibernate = off, but with state saved in a file on the hard drive

>>34626868
correction:
OSX: hibernate or off
Windows: Sleep or hibernate
Linux: Sleep, hibernate, or off
>>
>>34626018 (OP)
Has anyone thought about that maybe Apple didn't even upgrade ANYTHING inside the MBA, but it's just the haslel architecture (with its new power efficiency) that allows the newer MBAs to run longer?
>no newer / bigger battery

That violates the laws of physics. Even in sleep mode, the laptop requires energy to maintain its "sleeping" state.
>>
>>34628544
don't be silly, anon, physics are no limit to apple!

I get 6 hours out of my 6 cell thinkpad when I work. Probably less under play/movies.

God forbid I get 9cell and a slice. I could probably hit 18-20 hours if I finally changes my hdd to an ssd and finished configuring tlp.
>>
>>34626765
Thanks for the lies.
>>
Debating on purchasing a 13-inch. I'm getting tired of Windows, and while Linux is great, I don't think I could ever use it as my daily drive due to lack of certain software with no viable alternatives.

And while I could do a Hackintosh, I just don't have the time to set one up and hope it works without a hitch, which it more than likely won't.
