Ok /g/. My steam account was recently hijacked. I have done everything in my knowledge to fix it. I have hundreds of dollars and hours into this account and I really don't think starting over is an option. The hacker that stole my account went on to steal my email and lock me out of it too. Steam support is basically telling me to fuck off and using bully tactics to shoo me away. Every method has failed and I finally decided to wipe my pc and beg steam support. there's just one problem. they are going to send my info to my hijacked gmail and I NEED that information. Anything you know that could be helpful would be appreciated.(and possibly rewarded in steam games)

What did the steam support tell you exactly? How did they bully and fuck you off?
Is showing up there in person gonna help? Or collecting proof and testifying from online buddies, if any?

If your e-mail account was hijacked, it was probably your fault. Your e-mail account is linked to most transactions on the internet, so it requires the most security: a password with at least 80 bits of entropy (that is minimum 13 random ASCII characters in length, or more if non-random), and needs not to be remembered by your browser / e-mail client if you are using a shared computer or device.

E-mail accounts normally have a security feature which lets you recover it if you answer a question correctly, or if you had your mobile phone number linked to it.

Tell steam support your login username and shit and send them proof it's your account. Paypal logs or credit card logs showing the actual purchase gurantee you can get the account back. I've done this before on one of my really old accounts, all I had to do was send them the transaction ID of some game purchases from my paypal.

Note: I really don't know how steam works, but just my general dealing with retard situations IT skills may come in.

You obviously had to pay for it so you have some sort of Id that way.

1. Your account wasn't hacked. You were just too embarrassed to admit this:

>Hi tech support, I am really embarrassed, but I was on a site and they told me to install Gentoo. So I followed up all the steps on the web site, but then my computer wouldn't boot. I was really disappointed because they said it was amazing. I didn't know that my passwords wouldn't transfer and now I have nothing. I am really sorry, but can we set up a new account and transfer my things? Here is how I payed for it <insert number> and I can fax/scan/whatever an ID of some sort for verification.

Other notes:
Not steams fault
Not your fault: It is your lack of knowledge of computers
Ask if they recommend some ways to avoid this happening in the future (It doesn't matter if you actually record these, just pretend to write them down)
You are a lost puppy scared on the internet and you need saving.
