Okay, so now it looks like Microsoft is full of shit 100%.

Not only is their stupid voice command been overly hyped, proven to not work and a shitload of retarded scenarios that could happen pointed out (along with thei retarded "MOVE YOUR HANDS TO CHANGE THE SCREEN" ideas)

It turns out Microsoft plans to make you HAVE TO be connected to the Internet, DRM.

They constantly keep changing their reponses to questions from this, it went from "You don't have to be connected to the internet, unless you're using the console" (seriously, what?) to "No, you don't have to be connected at all" to "You have to connect SOMETIMES" and then when asked

>What does sometimes mean
>occasionally
>And how much is that exactly
>Every 24 hours
>WHAT, EVERY 24 HOURS?
>i uh um I mean a week, a month, shit I don't know, what was the question

And then they release a statement saying
>We were talking about a different feature and a possible scenario, you misunderstood us
>So will it be manditory
>Yes, no, maybe. Probably, I don't know.

What the fuck is Microsoft doing exactly? They're trying to lie their way through this entire thing until they launch, so as many people can buy their console before the reviews come out of it being all lies and all shit?

They're essentially forcing you to use a optional service, THAT THEY PLAN TO CHARGE ON MONEY ON.

I don't care about the fucking console, I'm not buying it anyway.

It just pisses me off that microsoft is playing this jew shit and people are going to buy into it. DRM pisses me off and Microsoft knows it pisses everyone off, so instead of removing it, they're trying to hide it for as long as possible and eventually this sort of shit is going to be acceptable.

It fucking isn't.

And the best thing you can do about the new shitbox at this point? Shut the fuck up, don't post threads that'll raise another shitstorm and get attention for two hours. The less attention the release gets, the better. They don't even do anything that'd actually deserve attention (as in GOOD things), so why in the name of fuck is everybody giving it to them?

Neither impresses me much. I'd thought this time round both companies were going to drop something great that future proofed their shit for a while. What a joke.

Both Sony and Microsoft are guilty:

1. Only a fool would think 8gb is going to see them through to 2018+. DDR4 is also nearly out later this year, and seeing as DRAM is now 1/3 the cost of what it was 3 years ago this was unacepptably chincy.
2. Both are using a mechanical 5400rpm HDD, despite SSD having been out for 4 years now and quite cheap. They didn't even try to combo a smaller 64gb SSD with the HDD (even a generic dirt cheap Sandisk one).
3. The CPU is an underpowered AMD octo (Jaguar lol) which will far from futureproof it.
4. They didn't even bother with Displayport, or making it properly 4k capable...
http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-hdmi-passthrough/
HDMI's next gen that will *supposedly* handle 4k bandwidth (all buzztalk as of yet) might very well be a bastardized form of displayport, which is already capable of 4k today (this makes no sense)
5. It isn't backwards compatible with Xbox or Xbox 360 games (gay nigs)
6. Expandability? So solly!
7. Sony had at least a history of being very crackable - being able to stream media from any PC with PS3MediaServer etc was excellent, never having to worry about any of Microsoft's cockblock bullshit.
8. It looks like a VCR. Aesthetics still count for something, Microsoft.

I buy games when I like them and especially when the multiplayer looks fun. I bought TF2 and SC2, and got so many hours of entertainment out of them.. 2*10 hours singleplayer + 1000*15 minutes (=250 hours) multiplayer equals 270 hours of entertainment for 80 bucks , meaning around 60 cents for two hours of entertinment

yeah, that IS worth it

for the rest... is either don't play them or buy them from the bargain bin. it's not like I have enough time to play a new game every week

You are completely missing the point. People seem to think that AMD is going to make massive money from consoles, they wont. Yes they will make money, like nvidia did but $500 million over 7 years isn't exactly game changing.

Who cares if those PCs are not used for games? AMD still gets paid. We are not comparing PC gaming and console gaming we are talking hardware. AMD getting the consoles isn't a massive deal, what they need is more chips in laptops and tablets.
>>
>>34004782
AMD will make way more than Nvidia did as they're supplying both the CPU and GPU (It's on the same chip but either way it's going to cost more)
>>
>>34004782

AMD is selling to both companies for quite a few years to come, though. Even at a lower price they'll still make a mint.
nVidia isn't getting any part of that. It has to be good for AMD.

The figures you're citing for what nVidia made selling to consoles were from a different time and market as well. Things have changed dramatically and the tech zeitgeist has altered in that time
>>
>>34004782
I think you're missing the point as well and a bit short sighted.

AMD's microarchitectures were previously ignored, and their competitors were optimized for.

This time they have both CPU and GPU architecture inside the consoles. That means lots of free optimizations for their hardware, better ability to compete in the PC space. Thanks to the consoles.
>>
>>34004389
>nVidia basically said "fuck consoles" this time round
They weren't involved the last time around either.

>>
>>34004794
We can't know that. We don't know what MS and Sony are paying. What we do know is that it wasn't enough to interest Nvidia so it can't be too amazing.
>"I'm sure there was a negotiation that went on," Tony Tamasi, Senior VP of content and technology at Nvidia told GameSpot, "and we came to the conclusion that we didn't want to do the business at the price those guys were willing to pay."

The consoles are not a bad thing for AMD, but people think it's far more important tha it is.

It's a good thing to keep in mind that AMD probably doesn't have a fixed price point for Sony and Microsoft.

There is such a thing as gen stages for consoles, meaning they can up the prices for later gens of both consoles. I'm sure both will change hardware over the years too, just as earlier PS3 and 360 did.

Their graphics division will focus on the GCN 2.0 as a base, and concentrate on packing as many of these little devils into future generation video cards over the next 4 years.

Meanwhile their Jaguar based APUs will receive good bang for the buck in general sue to software optimisation from consoles.

I don't why everyone seems to be bitching about the fact that it won't be backwards compatible with 360 games. I mean sure, it would've been nice but the 360 uses a PowerPC CPU instead of an x86 CPU. The architecture is completely different which is why older games aren't supported.

Also, x86 > PowerPC.

And what's that about display ports? There's not a lot of TV's and monitors available with the ability to use display port. HDMI on the other hand is the standard and HDMI 1.4 supports 4K resolutions.
