The next 4chan Q&A/PMQ will be held on /q/ at 8:00PM ET on Sunday, May 12th.

I'll be spending the night answering questions/listening to feedback this coming Sunday. Don't know what a PMQ is? It's detailed towards the end of this news post.
Simply, it's the opportunity to ask me any questions you'd like, provide feedback, complain, et cetera until I fall asleep or jump off a bridge.

If you can't make it Sunday night and have a question/comment, feel free to send it to moot@4chan.org or on AIM at MOOTCHAT.

Looking to get a mechanical keyboard.

First, I know barely anything about them. I've looked around the net a bit but have no idea really what I'd want.

Mainly, I'd be using it for plain typing (I write reviews, and also write generally in education a lot), but also would be using it for gaming. I know the switches have different uses and stuff so that would be important.

Is it possible to change switches or something for different uses? Like, if I want some keys for gaming, obviously they wouldn't be ideal when purely typing.

Some advice and insight would be great. Cheers /g/.

Start by reading about different switch types.

I don't think a keyboard exists where you can change switches.

I hear razor is shit.
Duckys are good.

I would tell you more but I don't have a mech keyboard myself.

For plain typing, try Cherry MX Brown or Blue, and take a look at WASD keyboards.

If you don't mind a louder keyboard get MX Blues.

I don't know what's /g/s opinion on the CM QuickFire TK, but they seem to have a great layout and are don't have too much branding on them.

Looks like Mechanical Keyboards are getting more reputation. Didn't read much about the CM Quickfire Stealth, so what do you guys think about? Looks clean.

CM is definitely trying.

Which Cherry switch is better for both gaming and typing? Seems like they really differ.

Probably Brown.

Pathetic.

Hey guys, I'm looking to trade my Leopold Otaku TKL Brown for any equivalent priced BLANK TKL keyboard with Blues.

Anyone.
Anyone ;_;
>>
buy a cherry mx switch starter pack from like WASD or EK. you get one of each of the standard cherries along with a keycap so you can get a feel for them and see which one is best for you :3

Good for typing (feel a bump on keypress):
mx blue (clicks)
mx browns (no click)
mx clear (no click, heavier spring -> not easy to bottom out, thus rather quiet)

switches with bumps kinda suck at keydown games such as shooters or racing games, because you have to hold the key down below the bump to actuate it. On my mx browns, playing fps games for more than 3 hours are somewhat tiring.

For gaming, you'd rather want linear switches (key goes down all the way without bump). Reds (little resistance) or Blacks (high resistance)

I'm currently considering buying a small, tenkeyless linear kb for gaming and stick to my mx browns for all productivity stuff. That should also answer the question about switching switches. It doesn't work, sadly.

Pic: my mx brown board, and a cheap mx clear board I'm gonna gift to my dad.

>tfw I'm scared to buy a mechanical keyboard because I have no way of actually trying the keys for myself
Sucks being British.

Wondering this myself. I do a fuck ton of typing, but also a fuck ton of gaming. Buying two keyboards is clearly out of the question.

Just go with the browns.
>>
>>33732632
two cheap mech keyboards might suit you better than one expensive. Else, browns are really okay, just not great for keydown gaming. For rts and the likes it's perfectly fine.

How does that work? Do you just attach the key to the switch and push it on its own? Seems like it wouldn't give a proper representation.
>>
>>33732001
brown or black. brown if more inclined toward typing. black if more inclined towards gaming.
