So I've been trying to de-integrate my phone with all of that google bullshit that android forces on you by default, and I've run into the problem of aquiring apps that are only on the google play store.

It turns out that if I want to use google play, I need the full set of "google services", aka google play plus a bunch of google shit i don't want or need.

What would be the best way to go about getting apps from the store without installing the app on my phone, or is there a way to get just the google play store with none of the extras? I wouldn't care if it meant I had to update apps manually.

Pls halp, /g/.

Find cracked APKs.

I'd rather get stuff from official sources rather than shady german file upload sites.

Then you have almost no options. Have you tried F-Droid?
>>
>>35793320
I'm guessing the play store has some bullshit that means the .apks will only run if google services is running? Or does it automatically install it and leave no .apk behind, so I can't just get the app on a different android device and install it on my phone?

I'll keep f-droid in mind and use it where possible, but it didn't help me in this case.

Check out the alternatives to the Android OS they have here.

This is simple. Root your phone, download all of the applications that you want, then use Titanium Backup to make a full backup of all APKs. Then, factory restore, flash a new AOSP based ROM without Google Services, and then install all of the APKs that you backed up.

Fucking simple, but it's easier if you have two Android devices so that you can simply backup the APKs and then migrate them to the second, non Google device without the need to flash a new ROM or do a reset every time you transfer.

You're welcome

That's what I thought, too. Titanium can make installed applications into installable apks. Then you can reinstall them without gapps.

Get an iPhone OP, no Google or android bullshit there.

Alternatively get a windows 8 phone

I'm basically using skype+skype mobile atm so I can get away with not paying an extortionate phone bill that has a tiny data allowance and a ton of texts/minutes I'll never use. It's pretty botnet but I can't think of any alternatives.

Thanks, exactly what I wanted to know.

I'm guesing I'd need to match android versions (I've got a SGS3 running CM9(ICS) and an asus transformer I bought a couple of years ago that runs honeycomb).

Just trying to work out what the least awkward way to do this would be.

I wasn't so much trying to foster paranoia or anything, I just thought they had a good list of alternatives to the OS and the play store as well.

There are MANY legitimate apks either posted by the developer or the developer allows it to be distributed that way.

Sure, there are cracked ones too - many.

You want your cake and to be able to eat it too - get the fuck over it. If you don't want to be tied into google services, find another app store that doesn't require that or download your apps manually somewhere else.

there must be some serious crime going on

I'm not sure how the compatibility would play out from tablet to phone. Also, one more thing to note is that the absence of Google Play Services might mess up the experience on some of the newer apps that take advantage of Google's new Play Services.

Fuck it, just try it out. Have fun tinkering!

Yeah, it looks like a useful list, thanks.

Compatibility shouldn't be a problem. I have basic Android development knowledge, and as far as I know you only upload one APK to the app store. All the code for detecting OS version and device capabilities / screen size is handled within the app.

You can do this, and also downloading apks straight from developers (Apex Launcher and Titanium Backup provides downloads, for example, also many app developers in XDA). You won't be able to update most things though.

Is anyone actually using this as their daily driver?
