Do you have a /g/ related job?!

Post what you do/how much you enjoy it.

1. I work for a business that basically does fucking anything a computer illiterate person will hire us to do. I love it.

2. I also work in a walmart deli, one of the worst jobs I've ever had.
>>
Firmware Engineer.

Do mostly research and refinement of firmware & ultra low-level instructions. I enjoy since there is always a new challenge to deal with, and with how fast standards evolve in this industry, i don't think i'll get bored of this anytime soon.

How big a thing is firmware engineering, and how varied is it?

As someone who's never seen anything except x64, ARM and whatever arduino is, the whole thing is mysterious to me.

How does the field split into various subfields. E.g. consumer electronics, industrial shit, other stuff I haven't thought of...

I researching making an EMG using android and the ioio board. I probably won't write any firmware, but I find it fascinating.

Some weeks can be very demanding though( 13+ hr days), though getting the job done during those weeks quickly has earned our team massive quarterly bonuses on multiple occasions.
>>
I work for an information security company. I mostly do vulnerability assessments / penetration tests on web and mobile applications, but sometimes do internal/external network pentesting, incident response, and occasionally some really obscure and unique projects that don't quite fit any of these categories. I love what I do but traveling can suck sometimes.
>>
CISO at a mediumish company (150 employees).

fun, have to deal with new shit all the time, but hate fighting with the CFO over why we need to spend another $100k on a better load balancer or WAF etc.. also I have managerial duties - being a C level - which I fucking hate.
>>
CTO at smallish startup doing realtime data analytics.

>Already in the black

what tools do you use?

we use nexpose, metasploit, sometimes nessus (nessus reporting blows), and burp for most of our vul and pens. plus one-off tools.
>>
Software Engineer at a silicon valley company that you have certainly heard of. Its pretty cool.
>>
I work at a shop where we ... well, basically it's the same as OP. Except for the Walmart thing. I do some work on the side for a small company, creating a database in MS Access. I hate it.

Computer engineering grad student. I have a free ride...I get paid to learn shit and grade papers easy shit
>>
I reverse engineer malware as well as vulnerability/exploitation research and analysis.
>>
Just left my movie theater usher job today for a easy mode IT job(I've been doing both, but I just want to do the tech job).

Feels good man
>>
I manage and deploy Macs and iPads to private schools.
>>
I'm an IT Technician at a Civil Engineering firm. Around 145 employees.

I basically do everything. I could be doing a help desk issue one second and then building a server the next.
>>
I do freelance graphic design for a living, with no degree or legit work experience for a company. I make about $50,000 a year by getting work solely by word of mouth and what my portfolio looks like.

How much do I enjoy my job? A hell of a lot. Since I make my own hours, I spend all day out doing fun shit and work all night until 4-5am instead (I can't sleep anyways, so fuck it.) Plus, I actually enjoy working in photoshop all day.

Also, unless I have a deadline the very next morning and I've been a lazy, procrastinating piece of shit (I'll be honest, it happens,) if someone spontaneously wants to do something, I can pretty much drop whatever I'm doing and make time.

At least you have the possibility of getting that $100K piece of equipment. I manage a small IT dept. at a smallish nonprofit, and my annual equipment & services budget is probably about the same as your beer fridge's budget. At least I have a couple of minions so that I'm not flying completely solo.

Still, it's fun. I started the job a few months ago, discovered that our entire infrastructure was running off of one 7 year old SBS2003 server with a USB drive as backup and a 10y.o. Sonicwall firewall, and have been having a lot of fun scrounging up shit to modernize. The pay isn't too hot, but there's a lot less pressure than working for capitalist scum. I can do what I want on the weekends without having to worry if an e-commerce system is going to shit itself, because we don't have one. That's really cool.

The web programming aspect of the job is a pill, though. I'd love to know who decided to use Drupal for our site, nevermind why Filemaker is running in the backend for some parts of it. Yeah, I've done a security assessment and some pen testing, and yeah, it's real bad news. I can only imagine how shitty the code I'm writing is from that standpoint.

Sysadmin for an IT-company and salesman for a hardware-store. Going to quit as a salesman soon though.
>>
Somewhat. Manufacturing technician at a semiconductor fab(Intel)
>>
System Engineer for a fortune 50 company in their ecommerce group. Mostly admin work (RHEL and Solaris) mixed with storage support, performance (hardware and OS level) analysis and data center planning.
Love it since I have a nearly bottomless wallet to fulfill requests, even if it's for a long shot POC. Nearly every month I have a chance to try something new.
And the training budget on top of all that helps.

Wow. I wish you luck.

Seems fun to be able to basically build from nothing though.

I'm the IT technician for a primary school. I'm an apprentice, but I love it. The staff appreciate me and the children are great.

Nothing can beat getting a round of applause and cheers from a bunch of six year olds after you've fixed their audio problems in the middle of a lesson, or blowing compressed air into a teacher's computer that has never been cleaned in its godawful 6 year lifespan.
>>
I work at a national lab helping port a piece of research software from 32-bit to 64-bit. I get to Linux all day at work.
>>
Director of Technology for a private school. I make 34/k/yr currently.

I just designed and pitched an educational app to some of our alums/trustees which received $250k in funding. All of our students will be using it in January. Our team is made up of ex-Google employees. It's kind of crazy how this stuff happens.
>>
>>35289985
For web apps I typically just need Burp and maybe do a bit of scanning with Nikto and Dirbuster for some low-hanging fruit. In NPTs I mostly use nmap and metasploit, but I sometimes have to use more targeted tools for certain services.
>>
My job is to maintain old, awful PHP code.
All the programmers on the project know how shoddy it is but we're not paid to produce secure, clean clode.
I don't care anymore.
>>
massage therapist

1300 a month, 30 hours a week

love it
