Not sure if this is exactly the right place, but seeing as it is computer related I figured it might fit. I'm looking to build me a new computer desk because all the ones I see online are garbage and cost a fuck ton. I've got a couple sketches some friends drew up based on brief descriptions I've given them. Now I'm looking for ideas on how to polish them and make one perfect desk.

The main features of the desk are that it needs to have enough room for 3 monitors between 24 and 28in. screen size, have the most optimal positioning for surround sound speakers possible, and be able to display my computer case in a way where it is still easy to access the top / front panels yet shows off the clear side with all the pretty lights and guts.

I'd also like to have an upper cabinet to store shit, possibly with a glass panel in the doors so I can display collectors edition game boxes and what not. Also was thinking about mounting at least the center and FL and FR speakers on the underside to keep the desk from being cluttered by speakers and wires. Underneath the desk on the sides will be either more cabinet space or drawers / file cabinets just for storage purposes.

It would be amazing if someone out there could actually through this together in a CAD program with all the dimensions for each panel and what not, but mostly I'm just looking for ideas to improve these and pick the best over all design. Right now the desk is going to sit in a corner of my bedroom.

The first sketch has some dimensions on it. But for a general idea each side measuring from the corner out can be between 5-6 ft. and the desk space i'm looking to have around 2-2 1/2 ft. or so.

The top of the desk can sit about 27 or 28 in. off the ground. Will need about 22 in. from the top of the desk to the underside of the upper cabinets. The upper cabinets can be between 1 and 3/4 ft. to 1 1/2 ft. tall.

What other dimensions will you need? Feel free to adjust numbers as needed as well.

I made a little table for my case to sit on out of a 10in board, some 2x2s for legs and frame supports(dont know what the hell you would call it) and some long screws. It seemed pretty easy so ive decided I want to make a full desk. My question is how hard is it to finish/paint the thing since my little table is unfinished the whole thing took me less than an hour to saw, sand, and screw together all by hand.

if you post tomorrow I can try and refine it a bit more

it's 60x60, 28 inches from floor to top of desk, 1 1/2' surface to shelf and I think 1' shelf height

My work desk is like this. Layout and dimensions, I mean. I like it well enough, but I personally couldn't stand the excessive storage in front of and around the monitors. My desk there has a bookshelf about 8 feet long in front of the bend of the U and then file cabinets under the surface the ends of the U. I'm pretty unix when it comes to organizing philosophy, so the more a desk does besides is comfortable and spacious to work at, the less likely I'll enjoy it. So, while the space and configuration of the surface is nice, the storage is just excessive & unnecessary, I felt.

Well I mostly figured why waste that space you know? Plus with the desk extending back so far the bottom cabinets / drawers should be out of the way for the most part.

I'm now starting to think i like this one >>33823406
a bit more. I might tone back that top cabinet and make three flat faces instead of trying to make it round (was mostly concept anyways). The back portions where it drops down however are driving me crazy. I can't figure out how I want to design it. Just cut it off at the cabinets? Have at least a little bit of a wall there? I know i want to try to set my tower in that back right section at least and I would like to have a wall there to keep anything from knocking it off the desk.
