Ask a microcenter employee anything, except for which one I work at.
>>
>>34508094 (OP)

At which ones do you not work?
>>
>>34508124
All but one.
>>
how easy would it be to steal shit
>>
Will you guys be carrying X-Bawkz Juan?
>>
>>34508094 (OP)
Why are Intel processors always like $100-$150 cheaper there
>>
I bought a year protection plan on a laptop. Do you think I could take out the processor, HDD and SSD then return it under the protection plan and get a new one.
>>
>>34508157
Why do you want the enemy of your freedom?
>>
>>34508131
Let's go with that answer.
>>34508141
Pretty easy, people literally grab and go sometimes. Most of the small items are tagged. I haven't seen loss prevention come for some time. I've never seen the St. Louis Park store. I assume that's the easiest to steal from, considering it has a huge ass shrink.

>>34508157
I have no idea.

>>34508159
We sell them at a loss and have deals with Intel.

>>34508164
Techs usually check the stuff before submitting it as a complete loss. The protection plan is a "we'll replace it", but if it's gone, there's nothing to replace.

>>34508168
We're all about linux though.
>>
>>34508196
But that's literally the only thing I buy from Microcenter. That and their flash drives.

Do they have 64 and 128 flash drives yet that have those metal cases like the 32 ones?
>>
>>34508196
Why the FUCK did they have to close the Santa Clara store?
>>
>>34508215
Well, we aren't forced to stop you. If you beep, better start running. Your face will probably get noted if they see that you took something on the cameras. Every time someone steals something and they're caught on camera, a mass E-mail is sent. So we get Emails here and there about theft, fake checks, credit cards, etc.

Metal cases? No idea which ones you're talking about.

>>34508228
It wasn't doing well, as I was told.

>>34508254
What? I said nothing about stealing.

Also, talking about these flash drives.
>>
>>34508306
Oh, I have no idea which question you are then.
oh yeah, we won't carry metallic in 64 or 128. They're slow and terribly built anyways. Really cheap though. I know design changes are made sometimes, usually not anything to metallic though.
>>
>>34508351
The 32s were extremely well built and ran great though. A shame the bigger ones are shit quality.
>>
The only time I ever went to my local Microcenter was to get my case and intel motherboard combo.

Are there any other good values like the intel processor + motherboard combos?
>>
>>34508436
Yes, if you buy a 4th gen intel processor, we have a shit load of savings going on.

$20 off samsung SSDs
$15 off specific cases
$15 off specific power supplies
$10 off 8GB Ballistix memory, $20 off 16GB ballistix memory

The mobo + processor combo always goes on though.

How much do you enjoy your job?

Was in the St. Louis Park one a few weeks ago and watched some fucker flip the fuck out because someone wasn't listening to him about a fan size.

Do you get a lot of OCD/short tempered people?

Also, do you get credit or something with those stickers you throw on everything?
>>
do you guys get employee discounts?

is your company overall doing well?
>>
>>34508643
>lot of OCD/short tempered people
Oh...you don't even know. But I do like my job. With all the customers, it's like getting to learn things I wouldn't have time to figure out. Once in a while, I'll get the cheap of the barrel. Someone who just gets angry because their total is 5 dollars more than it's supposed to be and rage out of the store.

This one customer wanted to spend exactly $300, not a penny over, not a penny lower. He thought if he couldn't get $300 worth, he wouldn't be getting his money worth. If he spent more than 300, he would've thought he was getting scammed.

Sales associates work on a 2-4$ base pay with commission. That commission is pretty much our job and we get to lounge around and do nothing most of the time if we aren't busy. Those stickers register as commission-stickers. If the cashiers don't scan them, we don't get paid very well.
I've seen associates do 2-3 hour lunch breaks.
>>
>>34508742
We do very very well.
The gross profit of one day is extremely high and near the thousands of dollars. Although we sell a lot of things at a loss, like systems and processors. We try to make up for it by adding accessories or plans and what not.

Discounts very, employees get them at wholesale value. Whatever microcenter buys them for, we buy them for. So things like laptops, the occasional 1-5 dollars off. Things like HDMI cables or ethernet cables, somewhere in the single digits. Headphones, keyboards, mice, speakers 10-50% or so off.
>>
>>34508789
>very
Vary*
>>
>>34508789
does the store sell video cards at a profit?
>>
>>34508789
so is there any hope of a store near me? the closest one is an hour and a half away, in patterson
>>
>>34508745
Do you try to over sell a little, like push for the next step up if they don't know what they're doing?
And why in the hell do you sell >Alienware? Do idiots actually buy this stuff?
Just out of curiosity what "department" are you?
And the huge ass shrink from St.LP is probably because they were/are doing a huge remodel.
What's the worst part of the job?
>>
>>34508789
>So things like laptops, the occasional 1-5 dollars off.

Wow, those are really thin margins for relatively expensive items. Do you guys profit off sheer volume of sales or is it just mainly the accessories, plans, etc.?
>>
>>34508094 (OP)
Hmm
>>
>>34508873
Remodeling a store affects shrink? Only if it wipes out sections.
>>
What is the straight out most buttfucking retarded question you have ever had to answer? could you figure out what the fuck they were asking or why they were asking it? did they accept the truth?
>>
>>34508939
We're talking about everything moving around. It wouldn't surprise me if they were stolen because it was really bad, there was just stuff everywhere
>>
>>34508789
Rofl @ your margins, and I sell from canada you tards. How are my margins better with worst distro and better prices?
>>
>>34508939
Speculating, but probably because there were armies of low-paid workers in there at all hours with no supervision doing the remodel. What do you think is going to happen to your inventory?
>>
Whats a mircocenter.
I dont think we have a single one in ND.

Whats it do?
Do I need it?
>>
>>34508831
I haven't checked. I don't think so.
>>34508865
If it's in the state, then that's as much hope as you'll get for now.
>>34508873
I will try to over sell one or two parts. Sometimes I'll tell them they might need this or that cable. And if I want to sell an ethernet cable, I'll be ready to sell that huge ass margin ethernet cable. Honestly, it's nowhere near as bad as other sales associates, giving a 800 watt power supply to a build with one GPU...
The occasional guy with a deep pocket will come in and buy an alienware. We stopped selling the laptop -at my store- because not much people would buy it, but we still sell the desktops.
My department is the build your own, and I occasionally sell stuff from the general section.
The worst part of the job has to be count day, and "strokers". Customers that will talk on and on and on about shit like how microsoft is evil and the lines being as long as a football court.

>>34508886
The sale of things like warranties or antiviruses is where the profit comes from. A warranty is pure profit, and the Eset Nod32 antivirus is a 60 dollar profit.

>>34508986
I'm not sure how microcenter does it when their laptops are fairly expensive. Alls I know is management hates selling a laptop without any tags along with it.
>>
How would I go about stealing something, say, a motherboard?
>>
How would I go about bolting a car down to your parking lot, say, the one with a stolen motherboard in it?
>>
>>34509008
It's like newegg, but an actual store. It's pretty big too.
>>
>>34508953
Most retarded question...I really don't know... Not one I can think of actually. People ask a lot of stupid things.

>>34509029
Get an old motherboard, bring it with the box, swap the motherboards, walk out. Don't be seen.

Or grab it, and walk out. Simple as that really.
>>
How would I go about being a pedestrian, say, the one without a bolted down car but with a motherboard in hand?
>>
How would I go about building a trap, say, to catch the pedestrian with the motherboard in hand who gave up his car for it?
>>
how difficult would stealing a power supply be?

if I try to casually walk out the door with it will anyone stop me?
>>
>>34509029
>>34509043
>>34509065
>>34509080
It's really quite easy to steal something from anywhere really...
Workers can't touch you and most of the microcenters don't have security.
>>
>>34509062
>People ask a lot of stupid things.
Give us some examples. I'm bored.
>>
How difficult would putting criminal exploding paint in a power supply be?

why dont you guys sell high end asus cards
>>
>>34509094
Does anyone really give you a legit reason for getting the 32-64Gb of RAM?
Please tell me you don't have the apple store in your store?
The one at St. LP has a loss prevention officer right at the front door.
What's the biggest ticket item you've sold?
>>
why are you guys better than tiger direct?
>>
>>34509173
Because tiger direct is full of rebates, and not actual sales. hate those fucking things
>>
>>34509118
Fuck, why doesn't Microcenter sell any graphics cards. You have like 1 to 3, occasionally 4 to choose from. I'm not expecting the same plethora of options as NCIX, Amazon and Newegg combined, but you guys have nothing beyond stock stuff in Boston.
>>
>>34509087
>if I try to casually walk out the door with it will anyone stop me?
I mean, I've seen it happen before. If you try taking a desktop, people will put the eagle eye on you. But it's still happened.

>>34509103
Fuck.....
>WHAT'S A HDMI CABLE FOR
>how are your cables so cheap
>HOW MANY SONGS CAN THIS 64GB USB STICK HOLD
>this says this will work with Windows 8, will this also work for 7?
Hmm, actually there was this really oddball of a guy.
>How can I get microsoft from hacking my computer?
"Excuse me?"
>You know man, I did this amazing thing. I was able to download Windows 7. but they caught on to me and destroyed my computer. some error about a pool or somethin.
"Well sir, I don't think Microsoft actually did anything."
>WELL I'M SURE IT WAS THEM. they're nothin but evil fucking assholes. they almost destroyed my router too but i turned it off.

>>34509164
They mostly say video editing or graphic rendering. I really tell them they won't use more than 16GB, but they refuse to listen.
Yes, we do have an apple store. iPads are the top selling items of the store actually. And a $100 2 year accidental plan sells crazy.
a 10 grand build, filled with server everything.

>>34509204
Yeah, we don't have a high choice of high end graphics cards.
To me though, we have been expanding just a tiny bit.
>>
has anyone been caught publically masturbating at your store?

the only by me had someone doing it outside the store
>>
Does microcenter sell cat 6 spools, and is it at a reasonable (read around ordering online, maybe a few dollars for because I'm lazy) price?

I'm swinging by to pick up some shit in a couple of days and need a 500 foot roll to run stuff through my house. Figure I'll just fucking do it since I'm redoing 80% of the electrical in this place anyways and already have holes in my walls.

There is a Microcenter near me I just found out about 6 months ago. So far I have bought at least a grand worth of stuff with them (@ $9/hr paychecks).

Which brings me to the question of, can you be a non commission guy without being a cashier? I wouldn't like feeling pressured into ripping off people to pay my bills...but the work I have now for a home theater company (a black away from this Microcenter in Dallas) is very slow, I haven't gone into work at all this week.
>>
i bought a laptop, installed linux on it and fried it somehow
then returned it and my sales guy was totally cool with it
is this standard procedure, or is that guy just that fucking cool?
>>
Do you have an information on if youll be getting the maximus vi formula?
>>
Do you deal with 12 year olds a lot?

I remember going to the Madison Heights micro center to get the parts for my first rig (this was probably 8 months ago) and this little shit was telling his blue-collar father that Skyrim wouldn't work right unless he had 20 "gee-bees" of RAM. The associate didn't even know how to react.
>>
>>34509008
>>34509055
worth noting that it's a pretty damn good store and the associates are usually incredibly knowledgable.
If they don't know, they'll fake it pretty well
>>
>>34509087
scope it out. If they all look like pussies, they might not even be smart enugh to call the cops.

If they watch too much MMA you're getting KTFO

I have a modded KF server that has a ramdisk just for maps and mods. Did wonders when 12 people connect and need the map. The average transfer rate went from ~420KBps(Samsung 830) to my connection's max upload of 1.2MBps(5GB ramdisk). That super fast 4k read makes all the difference.
>>
Any nice perks from working there?
>>
There used to be a microcenter in my town. alas it closed down. nobody ever went there anyways. But I'm sure in the heyday of the 80's and 90's it did business.

I'm honestly shocked microcenter exists anywhere.

Nope. Try Ebay.
>>34509427
You can't be a sales without commission.
But there's warehouse, tech support, and the tech team that fixes the computers in the back. As the tech team, you still deal with customers and you make commission off of selling antiviruses and Windows.

>>34509430
Whatever you do to it, we'll take it back within the first 14 days and exchange it within 30 days. We're that fucking cool. Well, just don't physically damage it.

>>34509523
Yes, a lot of 12 year olds. They come in with all their "I know everything" attitude and get shot down by sales associates.

>>34509576
A LOT, you don't even understand.
They even have to announce to all the customers they think they know what they're talking about. And they even ruin sales sometimes.

any other microcenter hacks to get best deals/service?
>>
>>34511534
Right now, the best deals going on are with the 4th generation intel processors.
$40 off mobo
$20 off samsung SSD
$20 off ballistix memory
$15 off corsair 300R and 400R
$15 off Corsair PSU
I would go with intel.
>>
>>34511587
thanks for the tip
gonna stick with MAOR CORES for mah video editng though
still enticing deal though
>>
>>34511617
You could go with the i7 and still stick with 8 cores while having better performance.
Although the cost will still be fairly high, you'll definitely get what you're paying for if you decide to make a totally new build.
If you just plan to get the AMD + mobo, you might be able to get $20 off the SSD when you buy a processor.

Why don't you guys try to match prices with Amazon or newegg? I was at your store recently looking for a new case and it was $30 cheaper on newegg. Don't get me wrong, I love microcenter, but sometimes the prices are just not that great.

We definitely don't price match Amazon, but I've seen newegg price match sometimes on a special case depending on the manager. But in general, we just aren't supposed to because it being an online store compared to a brick and mortar store.

Sadly, it's only with the 4th generation. It's a possibility that if you speak to a manager, they might make an exception.
