>Flash still isn't dead

Why isn't this horrendous sack of shit dead yet?

Why hasn't Google/YouTube ditched Flash for HTML 5 yet?

The only other things aside from video content would flash games that would still rely on this piece of shit.
>>
because its much easier to create flash objects than it is to write for html5
>>
>>33269485
At least flashplugin is going to be unnecessary soon.

http://www.youtube.com/html5

Flash was really powerful, nothing will come close for a few years.

>Video streaming that will actually be used for anything and not raped in the fucking ass by laws and lawsuits

pick one

deal with it freetards

Flash has built its user base over a couple of decades. HTML5 technology has recently catching up to parity. It'll take time for developers to adopt the new technology.
>>
>>33269600
Wait, what does it have to do with flash at all?
>>
flash has better performance except for IE9, and can be throttled intelligently which is the main reason youtube still uses it.
>>
>>33269448 (OP)
Probably the increased ease of downloading the files. And lack of any even rudimentary DRM.

>>33269512
Doesn't apply to all videos, unfortunately.
>>
>>33269654
Flash has DRM.

HTML5 does not.
>>
>>33269448 (OP)
Give it time. Most major sites support it to some point, but HTML5 is still in its infancy
>>
>>33269448 (OP)

I don't know, man. Making games in Flash is pretty fun and easy. It can also become really advanced if you know what you're doing.

You can code at whatever level you want, a novice can 'make it work' without knowing the code, a programmer even remotely familiar with javascript will flourish with actionscript, and the environment allows you to draw your graphics or import images and work with them directly on stage.

It's a good application, that's why it's used so much. It's really not about your platform preferences

>muh HTML5 web 2.0.5.0.0
>>
>flash required for video streaming
this bothers the shit out of me
there's plugins that convert flash video to HTML5 already.
>>
>>33269797
As soon as HTML5 becomes popular we'll start getting hand-holding IDEs for it too.
>>
>>33269448 (OP)
>Why isn't this horrendous sack of shit dead yet?
you can't shove ads and drm in html5 videos, why do you think youtube's html5 is only available for ad-free videos?
>>
>>33269832
What? There's absolutely nothing stopping you from putting ads in HTML5 video players.
>>
There's still no other way to draw vector graphics with high performance.
>>
>>33269618

I would actually look forward to being a part of that the growth of HTML5 - there's money to be made in squeezing more application out of it in an easier to use way. For instance where is the IDE like Flash provided in Adobe's application suite, for HTML5? There is no such development environment, we're all still literally programming our HTML5 content in Dreamweaver (this is now an Adobe thread) and making our graphics in Photoshop ®

Yes

Flash is the most consistently portable piece of software in the world.
It's consistently shitty on every platform.

I mean really, I ain't even hearin' all this hatin' on Flash anymore -

I grew up with it. I love it and it allowed me to animate, something I used to be somewhat obsessed with as a kid - in a better way than flipbooks, or huge 400 megabyte animated gifs (yes that's what we did before Flash).

Flash 4 I believe was my first, and I've been with it since. Millions have been made in Flash games. And although the liberal use of it has (rightly) stopped on the internet there are things that may NEVER replace it.

Where are the multiplayer plugins for your non-existent HTML5 IDE's? Oh wait they don't exist either. They'll get around to it though. HTML6 coming soon in 2020.
>>

Sorry you're a literal fucking dipshit who doesn't know basic fucking facts

What overpriced version of Flash do they use to make SP?
>>

Maya

>The backgrounds and character designs are made in Corel Draw, then the wireframes are brought into Maya and rigged. The storyboards are done in Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, and the animation is done in Maya. At the time of the Apple article, the boards were being done in Photoshop.

Pretty neat to know.

They could have just used Flash though... which is hilarious when you think about it.

>muh design processes and stagesss
>>
Several things.

>designer friendly toolchain
>proprietary product, not designed by a committee
>maturity

There's several markets Flash has lost. Major game projects are easier (or certainly more efficient) to program in Javascript or whatever other language you want to target JS with. Flash sites are dead. It's a nice animation suite, but flash animations usually just encoded to video. The only thing they have going for them is a set of well designed proprietary video technologies.
>>
Cartoons like Happy Tree Friends or Homestar Runner wouldn't have been been feasible bandwidth-wise online as raster video (even with today's codecs) in the 90's.
>>
>>33269715
>Doesn't apply to all videos, unfortunately.
Install the Deflashify userscript
>>
>>33269448 (OP)
The only person who said that flash is dead is Steve Jobs. The irony.
>>
>>33270292
I agree. I also think that Flash hasn't really improved as a professional animation tool since 2005.
>>
>>33269876
Flash Professional can export as HTML5 canvas

>Says Flash is dead or will be dead
>Says he'll kill Android before he dies

>Both Flash and Android are still alive, with Android getting stronger every day
>>
In a sense, they've already started. Youtube apps for Android and iOS aren't using flash, obviously. HTML5 is still functional on Youtube. I have a feeling they're waiting until they can integrate ads (that everyone will still block) into their HTML5 player before they make a full transition.
>>
>>33271039
But flash is dying slowly. Android and Linux flash is discontinued aside from Chromium which uses the pepper api
