Which one is better? I'm coming from a Nexus S so I'm in dire need of an upgrade, switching over to T-Mobile on Thursday and I can't decide.

Don't even dare suggest the iPhone 5.
>>
HTC One all the way, S4 is botnet scum

saying nothing more than "pick this one," and giving no reason or explanation why isn't going to influence anybody's decision
>>
Flip a coin.
>>
I like my HTC One S, different phones I know but I see no real reason to hate HTC. S4 only if you really have to change out the battery or the SD card
>>
iPhone 5
>>
Which has the better screen?
>>
>>33392945
s4 has the bigger screen, but HTC One has more pixels per square inch
>>
The One is the nicest looking phone on the market but it does lack the SD card and replaceable battery. If you're gonna use a case like a smart person you lose a lot of that appearance factor.

Read the Anand reviews and make your decision from those really.
>>
>>33393035
Is it true the amoled in the S4 saves 48% more battery life than the Super LCD 3 in the one? read that on redi+
>>
Should I expect to eventually get Android 4.3/5.0 with the HTC One? It's still on Android 4.1 right now, isn't it? Is Cyanogenmod a viable option? I heard that the One X had lackluster CM support. Is that true?

>>33393052

>buying ANYTHING based solely on a review by someone else
>not buying ANYTHING based solely on actually doing a hands on demo or borrowing whatever device to get some experience with it pre-purchase
>just because it's pretty doesn't mean it's worth buying
>stupid fucking people will be the death of us all
>>
>>33393130

4.3 = absolute certainty

5.0 = who the fuck knows, it's HTC, they're not known for providing major releases when they're available so that's a toss up, and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie most likely won't be out till mid-2014 anyway since they just firmly announced 4.3 is coming at some point so that pushes KLP well into 2014.

Anyway, custom ROMs will be available before that so even if HTC doesn't ever provide an official KLP release, you can be sure some developer(s) over at XDA or wherever will make it happen.
>>
Consider Xperia Z.

Inb4 "hurr last years phone" bullshit. As the owner of one I can say it's incredibly quick, (mostly) bloat free, and really, really pretty.

Also everyone should have the opportunity to use their phone in a jacuzzi, speaking from experience
>>
>>33393080
Gtfo back to le leddit
>>
>>33393242

Also Sony's developer support kicks ass

And it's cheaper than both while still being (relatively) on par

http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/samsung-galaxy-s4-vs-htc-one

>The HTC One doesn’t feel particularly heavily – mostly because it isn’t – and the curvy ergonomics of the phone’s rear stop it from feeling remotely chunky. We’re starting to think that Samsung cares a lot more about hardware specs than actual people do.

>The Samsung Galaxy S4 feels a lot like its predecessor. It’s impressively slim and light, but the use of a plastic battery cover stops from feeling as premium and as hard as an iPhone 5 or HTC One. It just doesn't feel good.

Confirmed, Samsung only cares about hardware. Apparently it thinks design and ergonomics and actually having a premium feel to premium devices is retarded.

Well I say Samsung is retarded.
>>
>>33393280

Fuck why didn't I inb4 that too

Who looks at their screen at any angle other than front on?

Okay I should rephrase that, what percentage of users are going to look at their screen from any other angle.

With brightness up I've barely even had any problems with viewing angles. Overall I'm really, really happy with the Z.

Also, dunking your phone in beers at the pub and watching uninformed friends' faces is priceless.
>>
>>33393242
I'd be all over the Xperia Z if it had LTE. I'm sick of the awful ping I get with HSPA+.
>>
>>33393332
>premium feel

What is "subjective", Alex?
>>
What do you want in a phone anon?
HTC:
>Good design
>Materials feel premium but provide the same protection
>1/10 repairability
>Lack of updates
>Smaller screen

S4:
>Bigger display
>Very nice saturated colours (IMO)
>Better battery life
>Easy to repair
>Better support
>Quicker updates
>>
>>33393343
Ignore it, I think the viewing angles argument is the stupidest thing I've ever heard when choosing a phone
>>
>>33393404
Literally no one is saying the S4 feels better than the One, or any other phone on the market for that matter.

It's cheap, slimy plastic that doubles as a fingerprint magnet.
>>
>>33393456

>implying I give a fuck about fingerprints on the back of a smartphone
>stupid fucking people will be the death of us all
>>
>>33393394

But the Z does have LTE??
>>
Go to whichever store has these two. Check them out and make a decision. Don't be a retard and come to /g/ where there is shilling up the ass about these two phones.
>>
>>33393456
when the worst (and most common) complaint people can come up with to trash is "the case looks/feels cheap," you know you have a good product.
>>
>2013
>still buying contracted telco anchors

Get yourself a Nexus 4 and a prepaid plan already
>>
>>33393456
>feels

Again, still subjective.

What is not subjective is physics.

HTC One has 10% more mass with a roughly comparable surface area.

What your "premium feel" actually affords you is less deceleration from air resistance and greater force on impact in the event of a fall.

Physics > Your Feels
>>
>>33393559
This nigga.
>>
>>33393559
I am getting a Nexus 4. It's shipping I assume.

So true

>What your "premium feel" actually affords you is less deceleration from air resistance and greater force on impact in the event of a fall.

Not to mention the older, less durable iteration of Corning Gorilla Glass.

Does Geohot ring a bell?
>>
>>33393269
You're right. But they only started becoming nice to devs because they needed more people to buy their products. This is fact.

>>33393559
Tell me more about this anon. Just buy a Nexus 4 from Amazon/where ever and walk up to TMobile and say "Sign me up niggas"?
>>
>>33393801
Can't wait
>>
>>33393433
>s4
>better Support
Yeah not dev support for sure. The One already has CM on it and the S4 still has a locked bootloader. Rom development is going to be much better on the one comparatively.
>>
>>33393683
Yeah, Samsung did the same thing in 2011, then abandoned us once they became the dominant manufacturer.
>>33393805
Pretty much. T-Mobile had this $30 unlimited web/text (100 minutes) plan on their website for a while, but I can only find it on Wal-Mart's website now. It's worth checking out:

>>
>>33393927
Unlocked phones work right? Because a Nexus 4 is fucking $550 there.
>>
>>33393906
Not considering that 70% of the S4s will be Snapdragon models. They'll see the light.
>>33393927
If Android is so open shouldn't it be mandatory to release drivers and shit?
>>33393990
>$550
What? I got mine for $418 including postage
>>
>>33394013
I walked in there yesterday and asked about it. The chick at the counter told me the phone was $550 by itself and I said fuck that.
>>
>>33394064
Go to google.com/nexus
>>
>>33393990

Yeah.

You can buy a Nexus 4 from Google for $300-350:

https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_16gb
>>
>>33394064
buy it from google, get a prepaid plan, put in the SIM
>>
>>33394107
Wish it was that cheap in Australia
