I spent the day sorting through and re-reading a few thousand e-mails from 2010, and it was really a blast from the past. What a year it was.
Thanks for an awesome 9 years, and for some great e-mails along the way.

As always, I read all of my e-mail and can be reached with questions/comments/concerns/hate mail/and plain ol' hellos at moot@4chan.org (or on AIM at MOOTCHAT).

It's big enough for 4 people, so why not. The 80% of the time I'm no only one in the car anyways.
>>
>>31698982
I don't drive with 4 people in my truck anyway. The front end looks too small to hold an engine that goes about 60mph. It would get stuck in the snow and mud. It would scrape the bottom end on speed bumps, pot holes, or places where the road isn't perfectly smooth. The cargo area is tiny. The back seat looks like anyone over 5'1" would have their knees permanently embedded in the back of the front seat. The antenna is too short. The tires are too small.
>>
>>31699077
Well, those cars are made for the first world, I don't what part of Africa do you live in but here most roads are paved. I have driven across dirt roads and gravel roads on it and still feels pretty solid. Even, like 3 times a year and such I take it the mountains, sometimes with 3 persons going to a ski resort near my city.

Different people, different needs I guess.

the lighter a vehicle, the more agile, all things else being equal.

It's a performance thing.

FWD pulls out of corners under acceleration. Feels like shit. Ricers do like FWD for a quicker takeoff though...

RWD ...ah...nothing better than dropping into a lower gear, and popping the clutch for insta- traction.

TL;DR fwd just sucks.

lolwut

A front engine car with fwd has the weight over the drive tires. The ricers even ditch their fancy alloys for stock rims to add more weight.

As soon as the car starts moving upwards of 90% of the weight shifts to the rear wheels. This is why FWD cars spin their tires so easily.

FWD having the weight over the tires is only beneficial for slow/steady speeds, like driving on snow.

Again, there is a reason drag cars are RWD. And it is because of weight-shift

The only problem with the Tiger and Panzers is their unreliability. Most Tigers were simply abandoned when they inevitably broke down since field repairs were impossible with it's design and Germany lacked the logistics to get a 68ton tank back to a factory/workshop. But when they were running, the only way to reasonably counter a tiger was to avoid until it broke down.

V10s are pretty pointless considering all of about 3 exist, 1 of which is modern and under $50,000
and that is the 6.8L V10 Modular which is less powerful than the 5.0l modular V8 while being more expensive and not serving any real purpose
some inline 6 cars can have somewhat similar HP ratings to V8s such as the nissan RB series but typically have nowhere near the amount of torque
>>
>>31703971
>higher displacement normally means less wear and tear (due to high revving), which is why there was such a bad attitude when BMW switched from the v8 to the twin turbo inline 6
An I-6 will wear slower and last longer than a V-8. There's an advantage to having a main bearing between each connecting rod.
There's also a reason why just about every vehicle on the road >30,000 lbs GVWR is powered by an I-6.

RWD has over-steer and better weight distribution.

Over-steer means the car is more sensitive to steering input. This is the opposite of under-steer, which is what a FWD vehicle does. Under-steer is numbed down, under-reacts to steering input, and is more suitable for plebs with slow reaction time.

As for weight distribution, FWD cars have the engine, transmission, and differential all in the front of the vehicle. This means that most FWD cars have 60-70% of the weight over the front tires. RWD cars, on the other hand, have the transmission more towards the middle of the car, and the differential in the back. Weight distribution for most RWD vehicles is close to 50/50.

Also, RWD cars are simpler to work on due to all the engine accessories being on the front of the engine, and the engine bay is less crowded due to not having the transmission and differential in it

it is one area where cars are able to overcome shitty town planning
where trams or light rail are not implemented

one other point is that it is difficult

as for travel between towns I think a train or aeroplane is better

In the US Ive seen diesel manual 4wd 4Runners, Mitsubishi Mighty Max, err, well theres more out there than just the RAM and what Ive said. But youre right they are unfortunately extremely rare.

Oh, diesel swaps in Samurais and SideKicks are extremely common. You can find them with the swap already done pretty often
