Official /g/ tech support thread. Dear community, please post common solutions to common problems, to give newcomers a way to get their info at one quick glance, without having to make yet another tech support thread. This is an effort to limit the number of tech support threads on the front page. Please remember that contrary to local belief, installing Gentoo is not the solution to all Windows related problems.

Thread closed for the moment. A second one will be opened, left open for a few days, then filtered for good and relevant information, which will then be posted in this thread. Can't do that raw due to /g/ being /g/.

I had Windows Vista installed on my computer at a local computer store, and apparently the product key they used was wrong. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Just SLI a second 480 and start using part of that PSU

Hello /g/, mind giving me a hand for a moment?

I currently own a 4 year old computer, and I have a bit of spare cash so I thought about either getting a new one or upgrading parts.

So, these are my current specs -
    - NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS
    - AMD Dual Core 5600+ 2.80 GHz
    - 2GB DDR2 667Mhz
    - 250GB HDD

Other than surfing the web, the main use is Starcraft 2.
With my current computer the game runs on the lowest settings, however I still have some problems with it - if I alt tab the process takes around 20 seconds, and usually after I'm done playing I have to restart the PC, else everything will be very slow.

What do you guys think? What should I replace in order to avoid the problems I have stated above, and maybe run the game on a bit higher graphics?
If you think both RAM, Graphics card and CPU have to be replaced, should I go for a new computer?

That is because they are not assembled there. They are assembled here (at least, that I know of) so I can get them for about $5 less that US prices, but everyone else has to pay shipping/taxes.

PSU: Power Supply Unit. It will not be shown in speccy. You need to find your receipts and check, or better yet: Open up your PC and look for a box with huge number of wires coming out of it.

    Remember, MAGNESIUM.

Also, at LEAST one inch on top of the HDD, even better if you can open the HDD case up and dump the thermite straight onto the platter.

I personally prefer Brown for general use, but that's just me. If you're going for linear "gaming" switches, I would have suggested Reds.

My boyfriend has all these old ass computers and electronics, well had. i went down to the local pawn shop and sold all this junk and brought him a mac.

he had old, wood paneled Ataris, "commadores" (can't believe holden made computers back in the 60's) and other weird stuff like a wooden box with apple written on it and keys on it. most of it was so old it used square floppy disks. it took me two trips to get rid of it all, now we have an extra spare bedroom and i brought him a brand new mac!

i even had some money left over to get my hair done and a new dress so i can surprise him when he gets home!

    >his face when all his old crap is gone and our place is cleaner than it ever was before i moved in
