So why are these things so expensive?
>>
So Apple can make insane profit.
The parts aren't cheap either
>>
Apple likes its 40% gross margins.
>>
Design isn't done for free.
>>
We need to have these threads more often, we really don't get enough of them.
>>
It's almost like reverse psychology, or like the notion that we always want what we can't have. By pricing them higher, people want them more.
>>
>>30984187
That isn't true, or Bentlies and Lamborghinis would be 50% of the car market.
>>
>>30983926 (OP)

the 13in model barely works anyways unless all you do is facebook with a 2k machine
>>
Because people would buy them nevertheless
>>
>>30984233
And where do you get that statistic from?
>>
>>30984220
Most people can't afford them. Apple products are more affordable, therefore they are more common.
>>
Because people don't understand computers at all. In a world dominated by computers nobody understands them. People also like shiny pretty things, almost like crows.

It really narrows down to living in a world of uneducated dumbasses who like shiny things over function and don't understand computers in the slightest, you get shunned out of society for understanding hardware and you know what a motherboard is or what different ones offer then you're just a nerd who needs a life.
>>
Desing, gorgeous software.
>>
>>30984279
Then why aren't Falcon Northwest or Alienware the most popular laptops? They're not too far out of the budget range.
>>
>>30984288
I like how you pretend you understand anything about why Apple products are popular.

Apple products sell because they make a product people want. If people didn't actually like the products, they wouldn't keep buying them.
>>
>>30984305
Those aren't well designed.
>>
Veblen economics.
>>
>>30984332
But the original statement was:

>By pricing them higher, people want them more.

Although "want" can't really be measured that much, people's decisions to actually buy can be measured in sales.
>>
>>30984321
Yes but they dont understand the products. They just clamor to them because of the media, marketing and because it looks pretty.
>>
>>30984305
Those are fuckhuge and have bad battery life, which are two things people actually kind of understand. Also, Alienware doesn't put ads everywhere like Apple does.
>>
>>30984361
You're wrong.
>>
>>30984305
>Then why aren't Falcon Northwest or Alienware the most popular laptops? They're not too far out of the budget range.

kinda embarrassing to use in public, especially if you're a working professional...

all those leds and g4m3r design with that shitty alien head logo...
>>
marketing

to bad Apple stock is coming down to where it should be at
>>
>>30984396
Please explain how?

Please explain how apple products are in any way not just a total fucking ripoff and they only sell well because they are marketed right and people are idiots

the brand and design has to have some merit for companies to go for that pricing strategy. look at nespresso for example.
>>
Because it has a 13" 2560x1600 IPS display. Anybody who denies that this is an expensive part is just an Apple hater
>>
>>30984565
It's not nearly expensive enough to justify the price.
>>
>>30983926 (OP)
I find that /g/'s response to any Apple-related question is so systematic that I could make a Python script that would define every Apple thread, ever.

def GetAnswer(type) :
for i in type:
if i["age"] <= 11 or i["troll?"] = "true":
print "lmao apple fegs are gay overpriced shit"
else:
print "I've had enough of these threads."
>>
>>30984502
fuck off ferrari shill
>/g/ logic
>>
>>30984595
Sure it is. Other ultrabooks regularly push nearly $1300+. Compared to ultrabooks from Acer, Asus, Dell and HP, the MBP 13 Retina is a steal
>>
because A) has the highest PPI of any laptop by a landslide, B) maintains a fully flash hard drive, C) is one of the only LEGAL (which means company support and software stability) machines with OS X, the only UNIX-like OS with professional and commercial support, D) has one of the most renowned trackpads/keyboards on any laptop, E) retains notebook-like high-end hardware in an ultrabook-from and F) has an Apple logo.

>>30984611
4chen ruined ur indents use code fgt
>>
>>30984657
Ultrabooks are a scam, too, you idiot.
>>
because people pay for it
>>
>>30984657
The MBA doesn't have that resolution. The rMBP isn't an ultrabook.
>>
>>30984461
Only cool thing about apple computers is the whole zoom in touch shit. Other then that it's just an overpriced PC.
>>
>>30984746
There are lots of laptops that have this.
>>
>>30984718
Then you can't call it expensive because you don't have a point of reference. Expensive can only be stated as a point of comparison.

>This is expensive compared to that

Comparing the MBP Retina to any regular $400 laptop is stupid. You need to compare to equivalent priced PCs and then compare on features.
>>
>>30984657
i dont think you know what an ultrabook is.
>>
>>30984758
shit mine doesn't Doesn't matter thought. It's a cool gimmick but not something that would push me to buy it.
>>
>>30984760
>You need to compare to equivalent spec'd PCs and then compare prices.

fixed
>>
>>30984760
They're all gimped ULV notebooks that peopke only buy because OMG SO THIN. Compare to equally priced business class laptops from Lenovo, Dell, etc.
>>
>>30984790
impossible because there is no 13" PC that offers the same screen
>>
There is only one laptop that can compare on specs and that is the Vaio Z. It is only $100 cheaper than the rMBP 13 and has a much lower resolution screen
>>
>>30984835
So find the closest one and compare prices. If the difference isn't that great, then it's not horribly overpriced. The difference is usually several hundred, if not a thousand dollars, which isn't worth it for a retina display.
>>
>>30984878
>Zenbook
>X1 Carbon
>Dell XPS
I could go on.
>>
>>30984835
>muh retina
>fuck your unsoldered RAM and actually decent windows/linux compatibility and non-ULV CPUs and useful GPUs and security features and optical drives and useful ports and removable batteries and myriad of accessories
>MUH RETINAAAAAAAAAA
>>
ok guys the thing u all need to realize is that most of you already agree with eachother about apple products and stuff

like you guys spend all your time arguing about things you already know and have in common and all see eye to eye on

then spend zero time discussing the stuff that actually matters or is worth debating and arguing about

it hurts my head

most of the opinions here all jive with each other, save a couple of people yet you fight and fight and counter arguement, quote post etc about the dumbest stuff

everyone knows why they cost so much
>>
>>30984918
Because it's completely unacceptable to value screen resolution over GPU power and unsoldered ram (rofl) for some applications.
>>
>>30984878
>>30984835
nope not a single laptop exists with a 2.5 GHz i5, Intel HD 4000, 128 GB ssd, and 8 GB of ram for less than $1700

>not even trying
>>
>>30985009
I'm honestly not sure how much expandable/replaceable RAM really matters in a laptop. Desktop, absolutely.

But just about every other laptop on the market has a built-in limit for how much RAM it can carry, so even the ability to swap out RAM won't mean a whole lot.
>>
>>30984903
All of which are 1080p and have lower spec'd processors as a BASE

So wasteful that initially, no one would do it for Apple so they had to buy machines and do it themselves.

I have a retina Macbook Pro and I love this thing. Best computer I've ever owned. I don't even really need to upgrade my ram ever because I have plenty, 16 gb. I have an amazing screen and everything looks great on it, it's fantastic for my photography and watching movies on. The 256 gb ssd is plenty, and it's fast. I use a network drive for most of my storage anyway. It has a fast processor and I can run windows virtual machines on it and run my architectural design software for school on it. Good battery life. Good onboard speakers surprisingly. It can do anything I want to, very well.

This computer is amazing, nothing can really compare to it right now, and that's coming from a former anti apple fag. It's worth dropping the extra cash for the luxury. The thing is beautiful to boot, feels so good in my hands.
